Hello everyone, i bought a cheap yamaha ew50 in reasonable condition, just one or two problems,(ripped seat ect)

Anyway the electric start wont work, if i put power to the starter from the battery it will start, if i put power to the relay it will start, if i put power to one side off the starter switch it will start, but when i tested the voltage on the swithch there wasnt any power going to anything..and both wires going to the starter switch were earths...no live... i have checked all terminals all connected, nothing loose, tried moving the wiring loom to try and get a reaction but nothing...

Starter and relay are both fine..

starts fine on kick start, just would be nice if the electric start worked...

What should i do next?

Thanks for any help

Shocked

2 ground wires going to the ignition/starter button/switch? You'll need a wiring diagram, if that's a case - to find the live one going to/from the ECU or whatever ignition relay you may have on the bike.

In the absence of a wiring diagram...

You'll probably find that there's one real earth and the other is either simply disconnected by (although it may be earthed by) some sort of safety interlock (e.g. stand up, brakes on...) which you either don't know about or may be broken.

The other possibility is that there's a semi-functional immobiliser lurking in there.

...Quick look at the Yamaha Aerox and Jog (hopefully similar) says you need a brake on to start.
