Can anyone offer some advice?

I have a 2001 NRG Extreme which runs very well, if i keep to journeys of less than 3 miles. However, if i go beyond, lets say 6 miles at full chat, the battery fluid exits the overflow tube!!!!

I am assuming it's boiling the battery? Is this a rectifier fault? and if it is, can someone tell me where it is to be found on the ped?

Thanks in advance. Very Happy

Does it smell like rotten eggs/fartyness?

I had this on an FJ1200, the regulator had gone tonto and was letting the battery overcharge. I was lucky not to damage any electronic components, I think always having my headlight on helped a little.

I had to get across Ireland and back to the UK (where my breakdown cover was valid) by stopping and topping the battery up every hour. It killed the battery, this had to be replaced soon after I replaced the regulator.

I can't say that it smells of anything other than battery fluid, but it does strip the paint on the casing where it lands!!

Check the battery voltage with a meter when the engine is running at full pelt. I bet it's way over 14V. Your regulator is probably goosed. No other reason for it to boil other than it was aggressively overcharged

You have to excuse my ignorance in the layout of this machine. I have owned it since 2004 and have done nothing more than ride it. With the exception of fuel, 2t and air in the tyres!

My other rides are '73 and '77 FS1E's and i know every nut and bolt location on those Confused
