how good are kevlar jeans ive recently bought a pair and a bit unsure if they are safe enough to wear instead of my padded cordura pants which are extremely warm in this blistering heat lol
anyone else wear them instead of their textiles or leathers in hot weather

I do.

However, mine are Hood, therefore are properly kevlar'ed all the way rather than just patches. I wouldn't feel so comfortable with those Draggin' style "patches" of kevlar.

I also wear them with hip and knee protectors in.

In my view, i expect they'll protect me as well as my textile trousers, the main reason i view the protection from leathers as greater is purely because of tight leather's splinting capabilities, which my textiles/jeans can't do.

Either way, the trick is to not crash really Laughing

Mate came off his ninja at santapod wearing draggin jeans, just as he crossed the line he had a big tank slapper. The fabric ripped but the kevlar stayed intact, didnt have a mark on him the lucky bugger Shocked

I wear Draggin', but I wouldn't recommend them. As noted, the kevlar coverage (while it's decent stretchy knitted stuff) is patchy, and mine didn't even come with armour pockets (I sewed some in). Try Hood or Sartso.

They're better than normal jeans, nowhere near close to proper textile or leather gear. Although when the weather gets really hot (think Greece Italy Turkey not England) it's the best for comfort and piece of mind. As the boil in the bag textiles are the sweatiest horriblest things you can ride in. Maybe enduro pants will be better... hmmm...

I've had a low speed off on ice and a fairly hard hit into a tyre wall in the same pair of hood jeans neither of which actually marked them in the slightest, the only blemish in sight is some discolouration on the side stitching where they were being dragged along the ground on every other corner. Admittedly I wouldn't fancy trying the same on rough Tarmac but they survived just fine on a smooth concrete track.

I have Hood jeans which I used to wear for all riding before I picked up a pair of leather trousers. I've never (touch wood) come off whilst wearing the Hood jeans so can't speak for how good they actually are at protection, but they are comfy enough to wear all day and also a heck of a lot warmer than normal jeans - having the knee armour in adds to wind deflection considerably as well. But they are starting to show their age (as with any jeans). However the ability of leather to slide along the road surface rather than grip it means I am more confident using the leather trousers now and almost always use them if I plan to ride out of town

Crashed in Sartsos and they did not tear one bit - 25mph on my thigh for about 10-15 ft and it hasn't worn through the woven denim, let alone the kevlar. I don't run any armour in them. Knee armour is impractical for me because I just want to be able to do my day to day things without having to go to the loo and take them off. The hip protection would have saved me from some light bruising, but the most important bit was that I didn't get any gravel rash.

Sartsos far excel draggin in terms of performance.

Some good testimonials here. What i don't get is why hood make their jeans look like something you'd find in Asada, rather than in a decent cut.

The high waist cut is help reduce rash on your back if/when your jacket rides up, the boring denim weave is rather retro, but if that's the cost of it being so strong and durable then so be it. They did recently announce a spin off brand that would be using the concept 6 design as a basis (imo the best jeans hood made), It'd make sense for them to pitch more at Sartso's market for sure.

I have a pair of Red Route jeans. Nice zipped up pockets on the front for knee protection as well as pockets for hip protection although they're 'patch' kevlar. I went for a bloke's pair as I found all the ladies jeans were... well, a low cut top (which seemed bloody silly) and as a lassie with a little more cushion on the tushin they weren't practical Wink

I love mine though, they've made riding on hot days a lot more comfortable and there's no more losing focus whilst riding because all you can think about is the fact your textiles have started to fuse to your skin.

That said, if you're planning on going long distance/high speeds then I would stick to leathers over jeans but that's just me.

P.S. If you do get a pair, make sure they fit properly and will stay up on their own. If they need to be a little looser (like mine did) invest in the Weiss braces. Keeps them up (so no bare backs going down the road!) without the digging in that a belt would do (and therefore be a distraction whilst riding).

Hope that helps!

Really? I don't think I'd fancy a zipper on the inside of anything likely to suffer an impact.

Woven or knitted? Knitted has more stretch and is less likely to tear apart. Cheaper and no-name brands use woven: I got some cheapo "RS" brand cargos with woven kevlar that I don't wear any more, even for a 2 mile commute.

The zip is on the outside, well above the knee. Not sure if the Kevlar is knitted or woven (what's the difference visually if at all?)

Nothing wrong with a high cut, more the cheap and nasty looking blue demin, compare the pattern to that of more fashionable jean and you'll see what i mean. Also the bright orange stitching. Pale yellow is much more friendly.

Some jeans do look ok, the hood ones (probably have great protection) but aren't great looking if you're in your 20s.

they are patched kevlar jeans
not full woven ones
shame there isnt any padding really
they are patched on the hips, arse, knees, and thighs
think ill just use them under my textiles on long journeys & use em for short journeys till i get some more leathers

thanks peeps your info as been invalid in helping me make my mind up Wink

Yeah, I'm with you on the weave being rather drab, the black is a little better but not massively so. But then that's the price you pay for the thickness and strength of the denim I suspect, none of my designer jeans are close to being as sturdy as the hoods even before you take the kevlar into account.

Also, those spin off jeans

https://www.kyrano-uk.com/acatalog/g8-motorcycle-jeans-mens.html

Full coverage with knitted (ala the concept 6) kevlar, pretty much as good as it gets for protection, kind of a shame they are so much money but it's not hard to see why, that much knitted aramid (double layered in places) isn't going to be cheap.

So, with those Kyrano ones or similar are they comfortable enough to wear all day at the office? If so definitely a good alternative to textiles over my normal jeans

My local bike shop are doing Red Route kevlar jeans with knee armour and (possibly) hip armour too, for a penny less than a ton. I might have to invest. Went to work in jeans this morning, knowing it was going to be ridiculously hot riding home. It was. Was comfy, but would've much rather had a bit more protection for my arse. I still had my boots on though, which was more than the Fireblade owner I went past who had jeans and trainers on, although he was just pootling...

Never got to try my dragging jeans out in anything major, couple of low speed offs (more falling over whilst on my bike) and one while popping a wheelie on the bcf mini moto day a couple of years back. They certainly did ok then.

My only proper accident was at 70 and skidded down the road in a pair of armani's (my dragging jeans were being held as evidence for an assault by / against someone else). They were knackered, but kept my legs surprisingly scratch free - wouldn't recommend anyone else try it though... I think the wet road stopped most of the friction damage.

So in summary wear what you like but get the roads switched to a friction free surface and you'll be fine Wink

They're a great idea imo, definitely what I want to get when I come to buy my gear. I like that you can just hop off the bike and look 'normal' in them! (maybe not those pink ones mind!) Wink
