So, when in traffic, do you continue and ride straight past, or get nervous and toe the line?

on a dual carriage way upto a roundabout/lights i would filter past a copper. not so much on a single road unless there was plently of space and not breaking any laws of crossing hatch markings etc.

As long as it's not dangerous to do so, I always filter, police cars or not. Not one has ever said anything. Well, one wound down his window and shouted "nice bike!" once. Smile

It never bothers me, I will always move over and let them by. Whether they dare to go by or not is another thing!

A surprising number of cops are bikers themselves so most of them won't be remotely bothered as long as it's done safely without going over solid white lines or the like.

I've had coppers wave me past them, so I've no issue. Although I'll not dive in front of the stop line/advance box at lights if they're watching...

On M-ways if the traffic is at a standstill, I will, but I still get nervous - a sort of am-I-gonna-get-pulled...

I've done it, they usually shift over and give me a bit extra room aswell... ive had a copper encourage me to use some hatchings to get past a particularly obnoxious driver before... dont see what people are scared of, theyre just another human being doing a job.

If I'm on the Triumph I do but slowly as alot of that bike is illegal and I don't want to get myself in trouble on the TDM I treat it like any other car.

As long as I'm filtering legally, yeah.

It amazes me how many people pussy out and won't overtake just because it's a police car in front, even if it's doing say 35 in a 40.

yeh err.. why wouldnt you.

listen closely..

FILTERING IS LEGAL!!

treat them like any other car. if they're under the speed limit then of course filter past em.

the issue arises when you bomb it past them at twice the speed limit Wink

They get pissed off when you filter passed them when they have the blues and twos going.

Filter no more than 10 MPH over the limit and I have been fine. If they kind of follow you then slow down.

As long as hatch markings are not bordered by solid white lines then you're alright.

I've filtered past coppers on single lane two way roads (one lane going in either direction) with traffic coming the other way and have never been bothered. As long as there's plenty space, it's safe, and you're not crossing (read: crossing) white lines then you're fine.

A mate of mine (an instructor) overtook a copper on double white lines and got away with it. Copper pulled him and his mate over and asked him why they did it, at which point my mate asked him to say where exactly they crossed the white line. Copper said: "I suppose you know the highway code them?" My mate pulled his instructor card out of his pocket and the copper walked off with his tail between his legs.

If I see them up in the distance, I get back in line and dont give them any reason/chance to give me a hard time.
If I have`nt spotted till I`m close, I will continue to filter CAREFULLY so they have as little reason as possible to give me a hard time.

And before someone says whats the problem? yes I have been stopped for filtering Question but was let go on my way after he had wagged his finger at me for a while as it was clear I was insured/taxed/MOT`d and had not strayed into the path of oncoming traffic.

Personally, I prefer not to give them any opportunity to rag my chain.

Filter past them always if it's safe to do. Nothing they can do and if anything might piss them off that you can nip past them and they have to wait and there's nothing they can do about it.
