Anyone done the London to Brighton bike ride?

Me and my GF rode it on a tandem Smile . Did it in about 6 hours - we took it pretty steady and had plenty of breaks though.

Had a great time, perfect weather apart from a little spot of rain at about 11.30am just as we were sitting down to eat some sandwiches on top of Ditchling Beacon...

The worst bit was having to get up at 3 in the morning to get to Clapham Common by 6.

We were in a big group so we had a hire van for the bikes: I don't think you'll manage to get the bike on the train because when were at Brighton station yesterday evening they were turning back anyone with a bike at the gates. I guess with 27,000 riders it would get too silly if they let anyone on.

Should be easy enough to roll up and attach to your frame while riding. Then take the wheels off and stick in the bag, so you've just got a big case, rather than a push bike Smile. Not sure if it meets the train rules for such things, but not too far off.

What time did you come through Haywards Heath??

When you went over the main roundabout (over A272), were there a load of kids on the left with their hands held out??

I had my phone recording the GPS track, so I can tell you exactly! it was at 10.39.

There was a really good atmosphere going through places like Haywards Heath and Ditchling - it seemed like everyone had turned out to watch and cheer us on Smile

Well I got to the finish in the end Very Happy

We missed our start time setting off at about 8.05am and had a very leisurely stop-start ride for the first few miles. There were seven members of our team and I made an effort of waiting for the slower members which meant a lot off stopping and starting. After lunch at the top of Turner's Hill I just did my own thing and rode straight to Ditchling Beacon and waited at the top with a member of our team for the others to meet us.

We eventually finished just after 5pm! It was a really good day, bit of a sore arse afterwards though.

Will do it again but just at my own pace, the stopping and starting was a little frustrating but all in all a great day and about £1500 raised, possibly £3000 if work matches the donations.

Hello everyone !

I did the London to Brighton bike ride which is organised by Martlets > 'Martlets Friday Night Ride to the Coast' which leaves London at midnight and you arrive on Brighton seafront in time for breakfast!

This is a great ride and definitely nowhere near as crowded as some of the others!! Can highly recommend it. Thumbs Up
