Have just ridden home from a long ride with my freind, he pulled me over to say there were sparks coming out my exhaust. I rode along looking and sure enough every now and again a burst of sparks came out the end can. My bike is a Rieju RS2 50, 2007.

It was only happening under load, and appeared to be random. Would this explain my recent loss of power and why the bike wont rev above 9k easily anymore.

If sparks were coming out the end can, what damage has it done to the head and barrel, and the rest of the exhaust? Why is it sparking anyway?

Many Thanks, Adam

The good (or perhaps bad, depending on your viewpoint) news is that it is most likely just your exhaust breaking up inside and falling to bits, or if it's a two stroke it's full of grot. Either could be slowing you down.

You may need to take it of to decoke it and/or see if it falls to pieces.

Always understood exhaust sparks to be carbon in the exhaust getting very hot and trying to ignite themselfs, due to a old tuned diesel used to do the same on full throttle and spit sparks out the exhaust.

I'd go for de-coking the exhaust first, it's a fuck of a lot easier than removing the head (even if you are a competent mechanic). Before you do either though try running a couple of tanks with Redex or preferably 'Magic Bullet' through it to clean the shit out.

Is it getting louder? The wadding used for sound proofing might be breaking up and getting spat out the back.

Exhaust could well still be coked up, and it's not exactly good for it, if you decoke it you'll have more power. Wink
