I'm running a Z1000 that has ben slightly downgeard. My old Pilot sports were badly squared off from commuting on the M3 so it was time for new tyres. My friendly tyre man (ride in bike tyres reading) suggested the 023's or pilot roads. 023's were 20quid less so I opted for them. I don't plan on setting any lap records on the m25 so went for life rather than a 'sports' tyre

Only covered 20 miles so far, but first impressions are very good. Took the bike out today, dry but a little on the cool side. Gave it a mile or two to get warmed up then thought i'd give it a try coming off a roundabout. Straightened the bike up and gave it some beens. Second, and into third. Hard on the throttle no sign of it giving way, and the front started to lift!

Feel nice on the brakes too! Tips into corners nice and smoothly much better than my old square rubber!

A big Thumbs Up for the 023's. Right out of the gate they inspire confidence and feel well planted!

I'll update as i do more miles.

The question is, how do they perform getting on the power hard while still leant over.

Even an Avon I'd expect to handle getting on the power in the dry while upright. Wink

I was being quite gentle being fresh tyres, but had no issues taking a roll on while on roundabouts. But I wasn't going to really push it.

I have to say, I had an 023 on the rear of my old Fazer and it was fantastic. I really liked it.

Got Conti Road attacks on the new Fazer and I really don't like them at all. The 023's were a better ride, and very grippy too. Great part is they don't square off as easily, because the compound on the outside is very soft.

Will be switching back to the 023 asap. Great all round tyre that really does do everything.

Just got these on my Daytona 675.

Coming from Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa it was a shock to the system with how badly, or is that 'how neutral' they dropped into corners.

Can't complain for what I need them for though. The tread depth is amazing on these.

Seem to think the 023s were tested in last months "BIKE" magazine and they came out well above everything else, even in the wet. I can't verify this though as I give all my old copies to a non-biking friend who is on the verge of going in for his licence.

Dunlop Roadsmarts (my tyre of choice) also performed well.

You need to cover some more miles first, its recommeded 50 miles before any real testing! Some differnet tyres I've had have been really different after a hundred miles or so

I used to have the 022's then went over to the Avon Storms however having second thoughts as the Storms seem to be magnetic (attracting nails/screws/road sharpnel) Crying or Very sad

Might be trying them soon!

It shouldn't be about miles, but about 'scrubbing' them in. 50 upright miles won't help. A few miles around some left and right bends (or linked roundabouts) leaning more and more each time will have them as good as they will be.

Well my 20miles were up and down the A4 from Thatcham to Reading. So some nice sweeping lefts and rights, with some roundabouts thrown in.

The new Pilot Road 3s came out top in last month's Bike.

Wasn't that amazed by the 021s I had on my ER6, perhaps they've moved the game on since then? Roadsmarts are still my all rounder of choice, although Road 2s were fantastic on my 954.

Road 3s was it? I stand corrected.

From what I read the 021 was a truly awful tyre. The 023's are up there on the money now.

I think the 023's are a similar sort of compound as the 016's on the edges. Really nice and soft.

I'll take a picture of the 023 I have that had done 1500 miles, and the road attacks I have on the bike atm so you can see the difference!!!

grip just a swell as my 16s did i reckon

bit of a bridgestone fanboy but yeh.. great tyres

I've got pilot road 3s on the ZX9 now, I was a little worried at first as they took me a good 100 miles to scrub in and lose the horrible vague tyre feel. Now they are rock solid, very stable and surprisingly quiet too. The front seems to turn in much slower than the old Pilot Sport it replaced but it also feels a lot less nervous too. Another bonus is that they look pretty funky too, almost like GP wets Thumbs Up

From browsing forums, 023 are really liked.

Pilot road 2, and roadsmarts are good, but my mechanic said on a thoi the Pilot road 2 last longer. Apparently the road 3's are on another level in the wet.

I've been meaning to post a review of the 023s for a while, having just used up a set. For the record I do 1400 miles a month minimum.

I've been running Bridgestones for years now; BT45s, 020s and more recently 021s. Last time I went to the tyre place I needed both front and rears replaced so after chatting to the Technician I decided to give the new 023s a go. It seemed like a fairer test with all new fresh rubber and they were raving about them.

First impressions were very good. Warmed up quickly - get warmer quicker than the 021s I reckon - and the rounded tyre profile itself seemed to be identical to the 02 series in general. As familiar as an pair of old comfy slippers Razz

Tyre wear appeared favourable. The daily trudge along dual carriageway and M-ways seemingly did little to square off the tyres and I did a fair amount of gushing superlatives in the 023's direction. All was right in the world.

5000 miles later I was pretty concerned. The rear was squared off and heading for the worn category - fair enough etc etc - but the front was abysmal. Somehow the front tyre was worn and squared far worse than the rear. The shape resembled a 50p piece and the wear indicators were nowhere to be seen.

So as a general tyre I would say yes, it is an improvement over the 021s but if mileage / commuting is an issue then I would say that the gains have been lost by the lack of mileage. The 021s lasted approx. 8000 miles before getting to that state on the same bike.

Hence, I am back with 021s and happy.

Fin. Karma

Dragging up an old thread I know and apologise, but I'm curious to see what people's thoughts about the 23's and the pilot road 3's are now they've been out a bit longer...

I've managed to tear through my Metzeler M5 is 2500 miles
(I commute, but I take the twistiest roads I can find.)

Slightly worried about putting a sport touring tyre on the RR as I do enjoy a damn good thrash around the backroads.

Not sure on either, but Pilot Roads 2 have been said to last a decent amount on 600's and 1000's. So I would assume you will get over 2500 miles on the newer tyres.

I won't be using the 023's again

Although they handle better than the 021 in all weathers it's now 7,000 since i fitted them and the back needs replacing.

Even the avons lasted 12,000 and the bridgstones are £25 each dearer.

Brigestone 023 £21.85 per 1000 miles
Avon storm 2 £10.66 per 1000 miles

Despite like eggs said above about the avons being magnetic i'm prepared to take my chances when i'm saving a tenner a week per tyre.

Just had an 020 fitted to the front of one of the bikes. Will put a back on next week and see how i get on with those.

So really we're saying that it doesn't get THAT long lasting mileage, and it's not a particularly sporty tyre...

Sounds pap!

The Pilot Road 3's are looking quite good at the moment, i just can't find a video/review where they actually push them on corners, yes wet weather grip is important... but equally/more so is dry grip!
