Errr I have absolutely no idea about parking tickets on bikes... do you have to have them for P&D ? If so where do you put your ticket? Very Happy

Thank you in advance!

Theres many places that have free parking for bikes. Check what the board says beside the paying meter. If it doesnt say "Free motorcycles" find somewhere that does. I'm lucky. Portsmouth has several mortorcycle only parking bays in the town center.

I'd check with the local council regarding their car parks, for example Broxborne council car parks parking-fee signs don't mention free motorcycle parking, but their website states that motorcycles can park for free in dedicated motorcycle bays, which is a pisser for me since I DID P&D several times before I checked Evil or Very Mad

In Blackburn you can park anywhere there is a P+D for free. The theory is, because you can't display the ticket safely, there's no point doing so. There's also a private car park on our mall which has a bike only parking area.

It's great. I get to park right outside my work place, which is handy as I can keep an eye on it. I often see scenes like this. Though to be fair, this guy was a lot futher away from my bike as other idiots who park here.

There are pretty much t&c signs near the pay meters and often they will have 'no motorcycles' which in salisbury means use one of the 4 bike parking areas or do as i do and just dump it somewhere not quite idiotic and use one of these.
In london their hi-tec parking fine cameras are still unable to read though Rolling Eyes

Most places go on ' You can't display it so it's free ', on the few times I have had to pay I used to stick it in the sweat band I have on the brake res', one day some tight pikey fuck stole it though so if I have to do the same I always take a picture of it with my phone incase I get ticketed and have to contest it...

The NCP carpark in Banbury expects bikers to pay and display. It's mental. I have no idea where I'm supposed to display it so I've never paid.

You could put it on the front but there would be no way safe as it is likely to get pinched, like others said check local council website. The other idea is to check the carpark and if they possibly have a little man in the box then talk with him before hand.
Or here is a link just info around parking tickets that might help you or anyone else. Cool

It would be interesting to learn if anyone has contacted a local authority that demands motorcyclists pay and display, as to what their guidance is where one should display the ticket, given that it would be missing within minutes, therefore making the rider liable to a fine.

They'll just say "it is the riders responsibility to display a ticket as required"

If you have to pay and display, buy a ticket and keep it on you so it won't get nicked.

Then if the council or parking company give you a ticket/fine, just show them the ticket you bought which will have the time/date etc on it. They'll have no choice but to cancel/withdraw the fine.

If I have to P&D I always take a photo of the ticket stuck next to the instruments. What the hell you're supposed to do if it's crashing down with rain though is anybodies guess.

I was taking a photo once when a woman rushed up to be and asked if I was a parking attendant (me in full black textiles & hi-vis vest) since she had overstayed & didn't want to get a fine Shocked

In hindsight I should have sed 'yes' & taken 40 quid off her Twisted Evil I'm too honest for my own good.

hi, i live in banbury too, and ive never had to pay for parking on the bike. there are two good sized bike parking areas either end of town, and plenty of other places you can park too.
the two main car parks for the town center do say no bikes on the notice boards as you drive in which is a bit poo though!
the only time ive had a problem with parking was a while back at the new leisure centre, i had parked where i always parked while using the gym, on the footpath area next to the bike sheds. i came out and there was a ticket on the screen. basically it was the traffic warden being a jobsworth twat, they said i wasnt parked in an appropriatly marked motorcycle bay. i appealed the ticket and they let me off in the end as there were no appropriately marked bike bays! Laughing
and if you do ever need to park in the ncp one (if its the one by matalan) then just get a ticket on the way in, and when your done just ride you bike over the kerb at the side of the carpark to get out with out paying, i think they only have one camera there and it is forward facing at that point so they wont see your reg! Wink

Check this site out: https://www.motorcycleparking.com/parking_london.shtml

Thats the london page, some boroughs are idiots & some are really laxed. Besides that Westminster CHARGE for a solo motorcycle parking bay! Cannot park anywhere free.

But good to know the areas laws before you travel.

I was on about the one up the top by TK Maxx, tbh. When down the bottom of town we usually park next to the taxi rank outside Wilkinsons.

How many freaks are there in Banbury, btw? Me and the missus usually play "Spot the normal couple" when walking around. I'm going to take it for granted that we've never seen you Very Happy

I've never paid for parking in that one, I've not read the sign in all fairness but I've never seen other bikers paying for tickets either. I know what you mean about some of the locals but I can safely say I'm not a trogg cause I'm not from Banbury, I just had the misfortune to move here lol. I park at the taxi rank if I go to town, I may have seen you. What bike you got, I've got a green pan European. If you see me, say hello!

In Bournemouth there are several town centre car parks that require you to pay.

According the their website you are to tear the ticket in half, and keep the half with a bar code with you, and some how attach the other half to your bike. Kind of makes sense i guess.

Aye, when I was a student in Portsmouth I used to love filtering through all the traffic going to Gunwharf Quays, nip around the parking barrier, then stay for hours for free while the cars all had to pay extortionate rates.

Suffolk Coastal Council pay and display car parks have free parking areas for motorbikes. However if you park your bike anywhere else in that car park (i.e. parking bay meant for cars) you are expected to buy a ticket.
