Came back from work one day just fine, parked the bike. Next day it didnt want to start. No sign of life. No indicator on the meter no nothing. Looked "obviously" like a dead battery. But why would it be? Just replaced it not more than 2 months ago.

With a heavy heart removed the seat to see the battery and there it was sitting all swollen up and fat. So its no more.

But why would this happen?? Its been perfect since it was changed. although it was not same size the original battery but that ahould not be a problem right?

So I want to ask is that is it being over charged or (most probably not) under charged?

Secondly how much voltage does the alternator need to spit out for the normal charging ? Also can anyone point out where else to look at in the bike for the possible issues.

Thanks.

Look to see if you can find a fitting on the battery for a vent pipe. Then hope it's not still got a blanking cap on it that you were supposed to remove before fitting!

If it's zero maintenance it will still have a vent - at very least for when it all goes wrong. Definitely check for over-charging either way.

I suggest you replace the regulator/rectifier, then get the proper battery on there (Tri-Arms are a YTX9-BS if memory serves)

You'll probably find that while the bike cranks, there isn't enough power to create a big enough spark at the same time. These bikes tend to need a really good battery otherwise they just crank over without starting. Try bumping it to see if it will start, if it does your battery is probably fucked (likely from over charging caused by a dodgy reg/rec)
