Hey folks, I have a Kymco 125 sitting in my garage after getting it back off my local garage where it has sat for over 2 years. Now the engine was replaced in it, and was never finished. The only reason I got it back is because the owner of the garage is selling the buisness and moving to australia.
Problem is there is now now ECU, or CDI or whatever its called.
Afaik, the engine is a copy of the Honda CG, so would the unit from a CG do?

All and any help appreciated.

Hi

Would be surprised if a Taiwanese maker could get away with ripping off Honda directly. Bore and stroke seem to be the same and it is an OHV engine I think. There are also a fair few variations on the CG125 anyway.

First thing I would try is find the cost of the part new from Kymco.

All the best

Keith

from my experience i would cut it all out and get a standard kick start motor! so much easier to maintain (and less to go wrong). after a few years of riding you might get one leg more muscly than the other thats it!

What? Sounds like the OP is after the CDI unit which governs ignition timing/spark plug stuff etc. The bike won't have an ECU unless it's fuel injected. Nothing to do with starter motors or kick starts.

Just did a quick 'Kymco CDI' search on eBay and there are a lot of results, some suggesting that some units are interchangeable between different bikes...

To be safe, stick with the actual part for yours though.
