Transporting the dog

Has anyone ever seen a topbox designed for pet transport? Just curious cause I'm considering getting a dog and would like to take him along on excursions. Might not be the most pleasant experience in the world if you're going at it hammer and tongs but a casual ride to the country should be okay (shouldn't it?). Thoughts? Anyone seen them anywhere?

Lol, well when i just ride past dogs, they bark and scream like hell. I've had dogs attack me on my bike... well bite my feet

I dont think one would be too happy at 12,000 rpm and 70mph on the back of a bike. Or even riding in a cruising manner...

Wow. I never thought about that one....I bet some dogs would really enjoy it. Then there would be others that hated it.

Is it legal? Would the police report you to the RSPCA if they stopped you?

personal opinion, i think that due to the facts that dogs have no chance to say no, you should honour the fact that your dog may be scared to venture out on a motorcycle. Also as a dog owner i would not like to see my dog in a state, because i hit a patch of oil and came a cropper!!

Chances are, the dog would love it - the feeling of the wind in it's face (seriously!). Ever seen them dogs with their heads out of the window, regardless of speed with their chops filling their ears and their tongue getting lift from the air under it, studies have suggested it simulates a hunt for them taking them back to their old instincts. My dog loves to do the above, and would often jump on the back of a friends farm quad and happily come along for the ride upto around 40mph (flatout).

I don't know about the legalities, but I just thought I'd add that. And also I've seen several with small dogs (Yorkies, Highland's, Poodles etc. and even cats) in backpacks with a small hole at the top big enough for it's head only within the UK, either on the road or on TV program's or documentaries so I don't see why not providing the dog isn't huge, though I've seen one fella from Cumbria who has a bearded collie which jumps on his back piggyback style and stays there for the journey (though they're odd dogs!).

my brother in law used to carry his mutt in a rucksack, you need to protect their eyes tho. There are special goggles availble for dogs, there was an article in the current (I think) edition of BSH about them.
