...man that was different! Luckily he was an experienced biker, fetched him back from Barnsley after he'd dropped his ride off to be MOT'd. Very very different!

Cool story, brah.

It's peculiar isn't it?

My first pillion was about a week after I passed my test. Had Pernig on the back of my CG. Small bike. Average sized me. Pernig (ok I can't keep calling him that it feels weird now, he's James to me lol) is on the tall side of things.

Overall it wasn't too bad but felt like I had a bloody sail on the back of my bike and it's slow enough as it is Laughing

Cheers,

Steve.

The son-in-law's Pedrosa sized and can't weigh much more than half a bag of wet sand, but it made an immense difference to the handling, especially at low speed. Thankfully there's some nice bypasses between Barnsley and Doncaster to open it up a bit! Also made a hell of a difference to the acceleration too...

When you get a really good pillion on board it's a delight. You hardly know they are there and the bike can actually feel more stable and planted!

BUT.......

I find they are few and far between, and suprisingly I have found riders are shit pillions. I know I am Laughing They are usually moving about trying to see past you.

If you're not already doing it...try dragging a little rear brake next time you're doing slow and tight manoeuvres. Keeps the bike stable.

I'm very very lucky, my pillions are excellent..i trained them well.

Took a pillion an hour after passing my test... Much easier than you expect and no significant issues really as long as you brief them before. Probably done more pillion miles than alone ones! Makes you appreciate the power of the bike when you go back to just 1up!

I think taking a pillion is a state of mind.. The thought of carrying an adult scares the pants off me, yet I will happily load my 5'10, 11 stone son on the back. Rolling Eyes

This, I dont even notice my wife on the back

These days I nearly alway ride with her on the back the only real problem is the bike wont go above 120 with her on the back or it starts to hurt my kidneys Twisted Evil

I have moobs at the moment, but I didn't at the time as I recall...

The branded jacket matching the make of the bike more than compensated.

One of those grippy net things for the back end of the seat helps alot, personally I find I slip back on the seat esp one of those tiny sports pillion seats every time the bike accelerates!

Then I have to shift forwards again, with the grip stuff this ain't a problem. I will also agree that I was probably a much better pillion before I got on a bike myself.

Whereas everyone I've been pillion with have said they didn't notice I was there...except Molly, 'cos I kept talking to him... Laughing

My mate Rach said she forgets I'm there frequently...but luckily because I watch the road I know when she's going to brake hard or go round a tight corner, or accelerate to go fast, so I brace myself appropriately and am a good pillion. Cool Thumbs Up

I have had an 18 stone guy on my RS 125 and that was very odd in a fun, bouncy way.

Weight matters, but also if I choose to ride fast or slow. I prefer to be free and alone, pillions are not for me.

I've been a pillion twice in my life. First time I was a kiddlywink stuck on the back of my dad's bike. I was clung ahold of him so tight that he could have done a cartwheel and I'd still be with him.

Though he says now (16 years on) that he hates carrying pillions. He'll only do it if there is no other reasonable option. Though he seems quite keen to get his grandchildren kitted out for a ride once he feels they're old enough.

The second time was on the back of an instructor's bike. Some huge yellow beast. His bike was pretty big too. I was pretty good. No fidgeting, no looking over his shoulder and certainly made sure I leant with him. Even when he threw it around a mini roundabout at the last possible second. I knew it was coming because of where we were and I thought he was just going to go over it, but it seems he remembered I was on the back at the last second and had to lead by example. It was a bit of an ohpoo moment, but I knew it would cause more problems to whimp out. Though he did comment on how much lighter his bike was after I'd got off. I weigh 19stone (120kilo). To think he dwarfs me. Must have been an odd sight bumbling past.

I haven't carried a pillion myself yet. Though once I get through my mod2 (hopefully next week) I'll be going down to Manchester to see a friend who wants to go on a - as he puts it - gay pillion adventure.
