As you may have guessed from my other posts I decided a couple of days ago to take some time off and ride to Montenegro to meet up with family. Things didn't get off to a flying start. On Sunday at around 5pm-ish I booked the 8.10 Dover to Calais at around 9 I discovered that my mot had expired. One short trip to kennington this morning and I had an mot by 8.30 unfortunately that meant I was slightly late arriving in Dover.
However, by 1 I was in Calais and all seemed to be getting back on track. Whilst on the ferry I did some googling and decide that I would take the slightly longer scenic route through Switzerland and Italy after coming across the grimsel pass, the oberalp pass and the nufenen pass on google images. (pics will come tomorrow). Met a couple of nice guys on the ferry who are currently riding down to spain which helped pass the time.
Unfortunately this good patch lasted roughly 2 hours as setting off from a petrol station I managed to somehow disconnect my sat nav lead the end of which caught the chain and ripped the end off...awesome
I am not of course carrying any maps
As it happens French service stations unlike their english counterparts carry items like car chargers for various connections rather than a multitude of novelty shaped air fresheners and are not staffed by a guy called Kevin who doesn't know what a fuse looks like.
The first day other than above has largely been uneventful as I was just making up ground. Highlights have included my jacket becoming an insect holocaust and hitting a bird at dubious speed, watching it cartwheel down the road behind me and shortly after realising that the pain from impact wasn't fading particulary quickly.
I decided this evening to avoid staying in Basel as last time I was there it took away 3 days of my life that I will never get back and I haven't yet forgiven it.
Instead I decided to head for Zurich where upon my arrival at a quite well appointed and pleasant youth hostel (Zürich Youth Hostel. Mutschellenstrasse 114 8038 Zürich (ZH) I was asked by an attractive Italian girl if I rented the scooter locally as she would like to go scootering. I avoided the temptation to repeatedly slap her across the face with my sweaty glove whilst explaining the difference between a zx6r and a scooter and instead raised a tired eyebrow and lit a fag.
Hopefully all the good stuff and pics come tomorrow unless my wife is right and my choice to stay in a hostle results in some sort of torture/decapitation/rape scenario.....we can but hope

Before I sleep one small tip, if you buy new leathers it's probably a good idea not to break them in on a 650 mile ride. My knees feel like they've been fucked by Vanessa feltz

Sorry about the lack of updates, if the Internet was as easy to come by as guns and syphilis out here i would have some photos up. The mountain passes in Switzerland are truly a thing of terrifying beauty if you get the chance do it, unless you're prone to target fixation or occasionally running wide on corners as the lack of railings or barriers is slightly unforgiving.
Will get to an internet cafe soon

Randomly boring French rest stop, though once you're in Italy you will long for the days when those French "aires" were so plentiful and clean

As you leave Zurich things start to get interesting
https://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab349/slyrob/46358ead.jpg
That's the sort of thing you get to stop you hurtling down the side of an alpine cliff, at this point your leathers offer about as much protection as a crisp packet in a Turkish brothel

And when you get to the top there is a biker cafe! Good times
More updates to come soon got some pics of Croatia/Montenegro and maybe some vids if I can rig something up
Cheers

That looks an awesome ride! I've always wondered with rides like that, and roads like that...how often are petrol stations? Tank + spirited riding = not very far??

Rather sensibly there is a petrol station either side of that particular mountain so even if you ran out you could roll back down! I was filling up every 100 miles on the way here as much to give myself a stretch as anything else, I will be taking a more leisurely scenic route on the way back so might have greater distances between petrol stations

I done the exact same trip 2 weeks ago though i went through the black forrest before switzerland.

my bike cbr600f wouldnt idle at the top of the furka pass, it weighed a ton as i took way to much stuff 2 45 litre panniers full and a tank bag a tent sleeping bag.

going up the passes was fun and coming down from the grimzel pass was one of the scariest moments of my life, i couldnt beleive one mistake n i was toast!!

I really didnt want to leave switzerland such stunning country

Tis indeed a J1 ZX6R, as far as I can remember on the way out I spent at least 250/300 Euro's on fuel, 28 Euro's on accommodation and about 50 on food and drink. All in all with ferry etc it was about 400 Euros . The way back cost a lot lot more as the wife came with and therefore took more than twice as long, needed nice hotels and restaurants and the like Laughing could've gone to to the bloody maldives for that money!
