Just bought one of these, used, via ebay

It will not shut up.

If i lock it, put it down it's quiet but unlocked or locked, moving at all it's screaming.

I've seen a vid on utube that seems if I unlock it and open it up it's quiet but mine just keeps screaming. I've replaced the batteries but no difference

Is it likely to be faulty or is there a knack?

Sounds like the switch is faulty.

I have a different style/brand and to make mine not go batshit every time it was touched (locked or nlocked). I opened it up and bent one of the tabs that let it know it is locked back so it wasn't in contact when open.

Yours looks rather non serviceable though so I'd moan at whoever you bought it from.

you can buy a new module for about £20 but i paid £40 for this as is and a new complete lock can be had for £67.

Thought i'd ask to see what people thought before emailing her the bad news

With my oxford one, you put the U bolt in 1way to arm the alarm, or the other way round to lock it but NOT set the alarm. Tried that?
EDIT: Sorry re-read your post. Yeah it should STFU when you unlock and remove the U Bolt
