I don't buy EBC as they're too dear. Goldfren work just as well for about 40% less money so I use them. Never really bought DID drive chains only either, have bought a variety of different ones.

900 Diversion, I do mainly motorway miles on the bike as a courier and yes I do have to test the brakes quite often! I find Goldfren pads feel better than EBC generally, sharper feel and they last just as well.
Kyoto pads on the other hand are terrible!

I have recently realised that EBC are overrated and overpriced, although from a sellers point of view that is probably a good thing as the masses seem to buy their pads.

Very good pads in my experience, I don't believe there is much point in paying more for EBC equivalents.

Always use ferodo pads, although I believe M&P were the sole importer of them so may have a hard time getting hold of them now..

Always use DiD Chains with JT Sprockets.

I would use cheaper stuff like Goldfren pads and Iris chains but none of that chinky stuff tbh

OEM, Brembo Red or EBC HH Sintered for me.

I've found Brembo to give the best feel and power, but they didn't last all that long (a few thousand miles).

Wouldn't buy cheap pads or chains as it's not simply worth the fairly modest saving to be unsure about the quality of such critical components. They could be just as good, for all I know, but I don't care to experiment.

I bought GPZ1100 genuine pads for W650 because they were said best pads for W650 in W650 forum in Germany. I like the idea of using genuine parts for other models. This tip is good for after market pads too. If I search for GPZ1100 after market pads, I can find better ones for W650. Some models have same shaped brake pads.
Mine for Q1 : Opinions in internet forums. (Sticky FAQ ones better)
Q2/3: no, I stick to brand name especially for safety parts. I suspect that some non brand ones are disqualified(but usable) ones for the branded ones.

Not really bothered about brake pads, as long as they're not a completely unknown brand.
Tend to stick to DID or RK chains.
For some reason, I always buy NGK plugs, never used a different brand.
Engine oil, fork oil, it's all the same, who cares, same goes for chain lube and degreaser.
Bikes I use are:- CBR600, DRZ400E, NSR250 & YAM YPVS!

Brake pads - I went for ferodo last time and they are really good however I typically get OEM. I will be getting OEM next time. Have heard a few bad things about goldfren pads although I have never used them.

Chains - I go for DID and advise others to go for DID too. They are reasonably priced, get a lot of positive feedback on here whenever anyone asks about chains and review well all across the internet.

There is however a lot of competition for them from companies buying in bulk and selling cheap - DK motorcycles ebay shop for instance sell them rather cheap (although I wouldn't buy from them out of principle of them being scum bags).

It might be worth considering a noob kit that contains a chain and sprocket kit and a chain tool, there are always people asking on here about chains and suitable tools, an "all you need" in one kit might work well.

Common bikes from the Jap four and the odd triumph/BMW would be a good start Thumbs Up .

Will you be doing tyres too?

What I look for when buying brake pads is feedback from people that have used them to be honest, just by searching forums so I reckon getting some reviews is the best way to go if they're brands nobody has heard of.

I'd be up for trying new parts on my ZX6R. Only just started doing trackdays but I'll be doing about 2 a month.

Not sure I'd be quick enough for you but worth a shot...I was at the upper end of inters with very poor tyres and knackered suspension (my times were quicker than some of the fast group) so I reckon I'll be in the fast group with the Racetecs I'm about to fit (unless you want to give me some other tyres to fit Mr. Green ).

I'll be doing Snetterton and maybe Silverstone over the next month. Let me know what you reckon, plenty of much quicker guys on here but I can write a good review and I'm local to you, also I do seem to be very late on the brakes compared to most Laughing

CB500, all weather rider, do own servicing/repairs. Some interest in repairing bikes for a living.
I'd buy SBS based on recommendation.

I've tried (currently using) cheap pattern pads. Not liking it at all (i bled the brakes and am using am using S/S lines along with a nearly new disk so it's definitely the pads).

I would avoid generic no-name bargain pads in future simply because if something's good, i want to buy that and be able to buy that in future, not something which may/may not be any good and worse, is likely to change with each batch.
Wouldn't say i'm a sucker for branding though (i really don't care how well known the brand is, hence happy to go with things like SBS above that i've never heard before), believe much more in good honest reviews. Indeed, feel that many main brands for bikers are actually rip-offs.

I want pads that are good from cold and in the wet, aren't going to warp/wear my disk quickly, and last as long as possible. And the cheaper the better, obviously. Clearly this is a compromise operation, and i'd be more interested in value for money than price. Have little interest in how pads perform on the track, because i'm not using my pads on the track! - i'm using them on the way to work on a wet winter's morning 1 mile from when i set off.

In drive chains i want something that don't snap! (i don't ever want to crash through a drive chain). Strongest chain = bestest chain. I tend to buy DID as the "safe" option as i know they do OEM chains, but i suspect i'm paying over the odds. Will never touch IRIS because i've heard multiple "my chain snapped" stories, the majority seem to be IRIS chains. Wouldn't want to buy a chain that i didn't feel confident in.

I'm probably less picky with other items, it's just tyres/chains/brakes being important safety items and all...

I used to use goldfren. They are rated the same as ebc but there is a lot of difference. They feel more solid, stop better and remain consistent whether riding steady or like a loon.

They now cost me £6+ a pair more and i'm using 16 pairs of pads every year but think the extra cost is worth it.

You only get one chance to stop and i felt i was taking a chance with the goldfren pads

I don't qualify for track boy status, but I'm doing a few track days this year, treat the road like a race track and ride all year round if that tickles your fancy for giving away chains tyres and pads. Search old posts for proof

Right, so far this year on my TL1000R I have used....

Godfren:- I took them out after 530 miles as they were scary, no initial bite and faded very quickly. Shocking in the wet, would never evr use them again. Cheap ebay shyte.

EBC HH sinterd:- Very good in the dry, not so great in the wet and seemed to leave huge scores on my discs. Lasted 1 track day and 800 miles. Doubt Im going to use them again.

Ferodo Organic:- My god these are good. Wet or dry consistent braking with little or no fade. Oddly one side seemed to wear quicker than the other. Lasted 1700 miles and one track evening. More than happy to use/reccomend these.

Nissin HH:- The best of the lot so far I have been mightily impressed. Good mileage (2800 so far) and consistent braking wet or dry.

HTH

Usually look for a set that will slow the bike down, but if I am really pushing the boat out, then I will look for a set that will stop the bike as well. Wink

i've used goldfren pads since day one and have absolutely no issues with them at all.

When i've had a new bike and they have had oem pads in they do seem to stop better for less squeeze, but i'd rather just squeeze harder and save myself a lot of money Laughing
