Laughing Laughing just got myself a 650 11 year old Deauville, and it's great, ( better half thinks i'll kill myself, i'm 55 by the way ) and I live in an area thats got the best riding roads in the country, North west Highlands. After years ( 35 ) of will I won't I get back to biking, I bit the bullet got my full licence, hired bike to tour Cornwall, GREAT PLACE would recommend down there, nice people, and roads of course, year later after a lot of SOUL searching found the bike i was looking for, and the rest is history as they say, so any one out there having doubts or maybe's about age etc cast them aside and just go for it, It's a new lease of life believe me.. Thumbs Up

Wives always say 'you'll kill yourself'.

But its more likely to be a White van.

Just sign the life insurance forms and tell her to enjoy the 'free house' if a Volvo gets you.

Thats pretty much my view of biking. Just need to get past this MOD2 malarky then it's a wee trip home to god's country!

Does the other half not fancy joining you Bambi? Mine is not particularly happy about me going back into bikes, but to her credit she did say she would get on the back.

55? A mere kid. I was 68 when I bought the BMW F650 and had not been on a bike for near 40 years.

So long as we treat all pedestrians, cars, vans and trucks as "out to get us" and be ALERT to the road surface then hopefully we will survive.

"Enjoy" as they say the other side of the pond

I'll show this post to my Dad, maybe he'll bite the bullet then! He just needs a little more convincing I think......Possibly thinking he's too old for learning - but you're never too old to chase your dream right. Congrats on passing your test, enjoy your bike! Smile

No probs there, same as you, likes going pillion, but not for massive distances, we toured Cornwall on a hired 650 last year and she loved it, the weather helped of course, sunny and hot for a whole week, good luck on your mod 2,

Good for you. I've just come back to biking too, at 53. I never did my test back in the 70s when I last rode so I'm starting from scratch. Passed Theory and CBT this week, currently deciding whether to go and do DAS or do a few months building up skills and confidence on a 125 first (The old skills are taking a long time to come back!)

Last year at the Pre-TT Classic Races in the Isle of Man the 250cc race was won by Ted Fenwick who was 82 yrs of age. This year he won the 250cc race again, aged 83yrs and riding number 83.
You're right, age is nothing but a number.

well i think that is a nice thing for you there. i am also inspired for personally i am not into motorcycle riding. i begin with my vehicle life with a car and with nature of my work and life a car is really the one that i needed but i really have this desire to ride a bike someday. actually a sportbike and you made me feel that it is not too late for me to try.

Good on you James. I'm a great believer in discarding age barriers. I have no time for people who believe that you should be a certain age to be on a bike. There's a 25 year gap since when I last rode 250 bikes properly on my provisional and when I turned up at the CBT the instructor, who I was older than, told me it was good to see 'wiser' heads being attracted to biking as it has a positive effect on younger riders. If I can give some advice and prevent a young 'un from going arse up all over the road then that'll do for me.

I can't wait to get my hands on a BMW, personally. Veering towards a F650 Very Happy

And I thought I was getting old at nearly 50 with an 18 year gap since last time I was on a bike! Laughing My instructor told me of a 78 year old lady he taught whose husband had died and she wanted something to fill her life. She thought learning to ride a bike seemed much more fun than knitting or flower arranging. I think that's brilliant - good for her! Thumbs Up

It's threads like this that make me feel a whole lot better. Just got back into bikes at the age of 50 myself (51 in 4 weeks !).

After a 30 year gap it's all been like starting from scratch - which is probably a good thing as this time around I've had professional instruction rather than being let loose on a 250 with none at all !

Now if only I could pass that effin Mod 2 - the next attempt will be my third !!

(You are all making me feel rather spritely...always thought I was one of the older lot...not now!!!! Mr. Green Thumbs Up )
