40k in itself isn't an issue, the engine and gearbox are strong on that bike and none of the chassis or suspension components are particularly expensive or high performing.
Bear in mind that with a flat tyre and after standing for a year it may need to some work to go back on the road. I would expect to need to replace that tyre (and I would get a pair of new ones anyway). Due to the age and mileage some bearings and bushes (swingarm bushes, steering head bearings) are likely to need greasing or replacement.
Unlikely to be a money pit in terms of serious problems with the bike, but quite possible that all of the consumables are nearing the end of their service life. With bikes like this I set aside £500 for new tyres, all bearings and bushes (steering head, swingarm, wheels, sprocket carrier), a fork rebuild, brake pads, a service with all fluids changed, and the odd unexpected cost like a new rear shock or rear shock linkage rebuild.
If you're competent with spanners then its a couple of weekends' hard work to end up with the bike that rides like new. |
