On Saturday I’m potentially picking up a Suzuki GP100 with my friend.
Might sound crazy but we’ve decided to make a full day of it, to Pontefract from Cheltenham and then back on the bike. Razz

I’ve owned an RXS100 for a couple of years and I know that was more than capable of pootling round all day with no problems. I’m just wondering if we’ll be ok on the little GP. I’m not going to be razzing it all the way back obviously, it’s going to need a few stops as it will get very hot. I’ll be travelling on mostly A-B roads, two up.
I’m sure she’ll be fine, I’ve seen the kind of lives these things live in places like India and China.
This should be a doddle right? Thinking

What a shame Jodie doesn't drive a van. She's coming from Pontefract to Chipping Norton way on Thursday night. Would've saved you a whole chunk of journey.

If your friend is a bit of a big un it'll be an interesting ride.

I dwarf my brother by about 6 stone and riding pillion on his CB250 made the front go so light it weaved around even at low speed. every corner felt like certain death.

She’s 9 stone. I’m 11.5. I don’t think it’ll be that crazy especially with the lack of power.

Can’t see the link at work, do i assume correctly it’s a GP100 exploding? Laughing

tooling about two up with snowie on the back of the CB125 while she was waiting to finish 'The Pup'/get her CBT appointment...
170miles on a GP100... well I wouldn't rate it as THE most rediculouse thing to try.... but its four and a half hours at an average 40mph without stops! At a likely average of 25-30, if you dont risk major arterial roads an motorways, then its more like seven hours in the saddle.... and on tiddler.... two up, I'd be planning lots of stops!

However, MY main worry would be risking such an epic adventure, on untried, untested 'old' bike, which I had never ridden before.

I am always mindful of when my Uncle had a similar notion and insisted on trying to ride his new, bugger it, I STILL cant spell the friigging name! "Russian THING" Side car back from Wildest Wiltshire to Brum! It didn't QUITE make Glaucester..... it WAS an epic adventure... and it has provided a rather good anecdote... but it was NOT the nicest day out I have ever had!

Make sure you have AA card and two mobile phones, and decent road map and or sat-nav.... or simlar contingency.... "Just in Case"

Multi tool, cable ties and gaffer tape can only do 'so' much!

JUST thought..... might JUST be worth checking a few imperatives with seller..... it's a learner legal..... make sure it DOES actually have the pillion pegs fitted, AND they are horizontal to the floor, before you go get!

Have images of pissed off pillion trying to rest feet on shock absorber mounts, hold legs off floor 'loose', and or wrapped around riders to rest on engine cases etc!

"Taxed, Tested, Ride Away" in the add, doesn't necesserily mean, Ride away TWO UP, and/or Ride ALL the way Away....

[not read through]

If it's as clean on the inside can't see any problems.
I still take the 31yr old 250cc single out for long(ish) 2up rides.

Your seat look comfier.

IIRC my Green Flag "any vehicle" policy only covers vehicles up to 30 years old. Best to check if you're going to rely on Man With Van for a rescue.

Should be epic fun, even if you have to push it the last 50 miles. Very Happy

[UPDATE] Just seen the pictures, that looks in amazing condition. Nicely scooped!

Hiya, this is my first post, and my first bike...I'm Killa's friend who went on this crazy mission with him. And here's how it went...

Well it was a bit of a gamble.
3 hours on the train at 7 O'clock on a saturday morning to see a bike that was older than me, and i'm nearly 30. Then of course there was that whole, will a 1979 classic, suzuki gp100 u make it from yorkshire to gloucestershire with 2 people on the back and only daylight to do it in? (have you seen the headlights on those things...no thanks)
And then I saw her.
And she would not start. Shocked
And I was not a believer.
However, I had Killa with me and he knows, well a lot more about the ways of the motorcycle than I do - I'm sure some of you will remember his biking history posts from way back when. So with a few adjustments, and a cleaned spark plug, not to mention tightening the main chassis bolt which actually spun slightly when the engine was started, I handed over the cash, signed the line and bought my first motorised vehicle. Very Happy
The rest of the day was great fun if not a little painful by the end. 175 miles from 11.30 a.m. til about 8.30 with a top speed of about 60, (downhill with a strong wind), a quick jaunt on the M18 courtesy of a sat-nav that couldn't remember that we didn't want to go on main roads, some incredible scenery and I was in love. She's a right little cutie and now all I have to do is learn how to ride her!

My CBT is in a couple of weeks, and I have killa training me in a car park by his house until then. It's great. I'm really excited that I wont have to rely on my frikkin push-bike any more. Although I think the kick starting and the classic maintenance may get old pretty quickly. It's a good place to start, and after this, I think anything will be easier to ride.
On a more ironic note, it actually took Killa less time to get to belgium on his old 7R than it did for us to get the bike home from pontefract, but hey, what's time when you're out for a ride on the open road?

They can do long trips easily, great little bikes. They wheelie quite well due to the short wheelbase.

I have an old Haynes manual for the GP100/125 lying around that I dont need. If you want it PM me your's or Killa's address and I'll pop it in the post.

Yeah it was a great trip and she coped amazingly well. Very Happy
Great baptism of fire for the both of us I think. (Meaning myself and the bike...Killa's been there before really!)

Good to know about the wheelies although I don't think i'm quite at that stage yet. Wink I did however manage a figure of 8 or two yesterday!! Laughing That was pretty cool. And getting my feet on the pegs for the first time... Oh the little thrill!

Thanks for the offer of the manual, but I managed to get one included in the sale plus the official Owner's manual to boot! Thumbs Up
