Hi all,

I'd go with the N.cook one (at the bottom) out of the two simply because I have one of their alarms on one of my bikes and have had them on 2 previous as well and the only time I had an issue was when an alternator went wrong and fried it.

If you get one you should update this and let us know what you think of it

I had the second one. It was 30 quid 2 years ago. 75 pounds is just ridiculous amount of money to spend on a chinese alarm.
Rant over, what I think about the alarm is;
It is OK quality. Goes off with no reason once a week. Couple of times triggered the left indicator which is a tad dangerous.

If I ever buy another alarm, it's gonna be this:

I have serious reservations about a seller who says:
Quote:
not suitable for Chinese bikes.

Then says:
Quote:
The alarm works with any 12V machine

How can someone who knows anything about their trade contradict themselves like that? I've had bad things happen with expensive alarms so wouldn't risk it with a cheap alarm.

Probably doesn't want the hassle of selling to anyone stupid enough to buy a Chinese bike Laughing

don't you think it might be better to spend £200 protecting your £5000 bike than £50.

Also. remove the wheels, weld the rest of the bike to a large skip. Lock it all in an alarmed armed guarded warehouse with dogs and it might still be there in the morning if you are lucky.

My bikes are worth almost fkall.

Both around or over 100,000 miles. one has no second gear. both friggin heavy to lift and not very theft attractive and they still have an alarm and oxford boss disk lock alarm on them each plus cctv so i can identify their hoods if they go walkies.

Spend some proper pennies looking after your bike or it'll be gone, quickly.

If you want it for actual security, forget the alarm and buy an Almax chain.

Are you thinking of the correct model? I don't think you could get an alarm for £30 that had the microwave sensor and paging features.

Or you could be serious about security and get both, like I have. The two devices are not mutually exclusive.

I've had the n cook V1/V2 alarms on 3 bikes now and never had any problems. The overpriced datatool-style ones are complete rip-offs in my opinion. I don't believe they're any better just because they're massively (and I mean massively) more expensive.

£200 discount off my insurance for a £300 alarm, by the second year it paid for itself.

And the NCook ones, are they not the ones where you can just replace the ignition fuse and you've disabled the immobiliser?

Personally, I think all alarms, regardless of price, are useless since nothing except a chain will stop someone from lifting your bike into a van. Horrid example. 20 seconds between the first guy touching the bike and the wheels of the van moving off.

How often do bike thefts involve the use of a van? If the answer is even just 'not always', then alarms/immobilisers cannot be useless.

Datatool System 3, Smartwater, Xena chain, lock and ground anchor when it's in the lock-up, Oxford Monster and anchor when it's outside the house. And I'm still resigned to the fact that if they want it they'll have it...

I take it you want a simple answer then?

In that case, buy the V2 or V3, depending on what you can afford.

I have the V2 on my bike and it took about 40 minutes for a complete n00b (me) to install basic alarm functions. Didn't want remote start, and it gives me a bit of warning if someone's touching my bike when I'm not in sight of it. £30 well spent IMO.
