problem with my sv650 engine

while i was riding my bike today down a dual carriage way the bike started to lose power and within few seconds the engine stopped. i couldn't get the bike started again. RAC guy managed to within the choke full , but later a rattling noise which got bigger. do any one know what can be wrong...the guys down garage was talking about a new engine..but i am not fully convinced with that. any advice would be greatly appreciated

Loss of power followed by loud rattling sounds pretty bad. You may have seized something.

Doing your oil changes regularly?

yes i do change the oils and the bike just came out of a MOT and full service..i dont know whether its the timing belt as i changed it last year. thanks for you rresponse

Don't know what kind of SV650 engine you have, but the cams are chain driven on them. No belts to change. Cam chains usually last massive mileages.

Also if you have ballsed up the timing after "changing your belts" then it would run rough immediately afterwards, rather than running fine then suddenly going pop.

Did it have enough oil in it? Did it over heat? Did it have enough coolant in it? Do you wheelie it a lot?

Personally I think it sounds like lack of oil/oil pressure.
