Morning all - a quickie regarding rpm

I was just wondering (as I can't seem to find anything online), roughly what rpm my little GZ125 is likely to be clocking at around 50mph?

Just ballpark will do.

From what I gather, the maximum power (a whopping 12bhp! Laughing

) is unleashed onto the world at 9600rpm...which I would assume is not far from the redline for the engine, and I think top whack is supposed to be around 65mph?

I'm only asking because I have used it a couple of times to get to a site I'm working at, which involves a bit of an A road dash for 15-20 mins, and I'm conscious of not wanting to be thrashing the tits off it on a regular basis, so I tend to keep it around 45-50mph.

Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Most of the multi-meters have an RPM setting where you can check engine revs. Just wire it up to the coil and take the bike for a spin. I would have thought it could cope with higher speeds at prolonged periods though, maybe 60mph. You could always fit a slightly smaller sprocket. Minus 2, or even one tooth should make a noticable difference.

Thrashing it is fine, as long as you have oil in the engine. Your hands will die from the vibration long before the engine.

A friend of mine used to have one of them. His servicing was infrequent, apart from an occasional oil top-up. He trashed it to work 30 miles a day for 3 years, and some 200 mile-odd trips, it never missed a beat.

Guess I'll stop worrying about it too much and just make sure I change the oil every once in a while.

What's a sensible routine, every 6 months / 2000 miles?

I doubt I'll be doing more than 500 miles a month to be honest - it's just a commuter, not a main mode of transport at weekends, etc as well.
