There's a chick at work, whose other half has his own business, a small affair, but he seems to be doing okay for himself. Drives lots of fancy Mercs, huge country house, etc.

I'm kinda "envious" of him. I get it. I get why you would get up in the morning - how you would see the benefits (and failures) of your own efforts.

I would like to have my own business, but the problem is:
1) I'm not a natural entrepreneur, leader, etc.
2) I've no capital investment. My savings are barely touching 30k -
3) I've not a clue where to start. I've no expertice in anything in particular.

Setting up my own business is, actually, the noX1 thing "i want to do" if I win the lottery. Of course, with a lottery win behind me, any business would not need to be profit oriented: I could fuck up, but it would be no issue. Silly fantasy, but there you go.

If I were to set up a business, I would like to:
-some sort of track day/experience driving school. But offering far more value for money than current set ups. Would incoperate banger racing, etc.
- a brothel, or call girl agency. I'm convinced there is huge money in this, if it is done above ground.
- independent bike shop/hire bikes/training school.

I know, it's a bit lame, but that's why I don't have my own business. Just Saturday night pondering.

How about you, what's your business idea?

The novelty wears off, believe me.

I can't see it ever wearing off lol xD.

I'm confused about it all, its legal to be a prostitute, but you're not allowed to advertise it publicly? IE walking around the street or phone boxes, but online is fine?

I think the mentality is that online is fine because its not as if it can be seen without searching. Which is marginally different to having the vicar walking past and seeing all that tits-and-bum on the phonebox cards, which is what the moral majority appear to object to

(plus there was the question of wanking in phoneboxes and card-boy wars in Westminster).

The novelty of the piles of cash never wears off, I have to admit. But WGs are notoriously tiresome to "manage". Herding cats doesn't EVEN get close to the description.

Sometimes I just run through Daltons Weekly and see what's around, but I never do anything about it. I have NO savings and NO expertise (apart from running knocking shops Laughing ) ...

I used to quite fancy a one of them little local post office and paper shop type things, but then I realised you would have to put up with benefit scroungers whingeing all day about [everything] so I went off the idea.

Ideally (and I think I mentioned this out before anyway) I'd have a secondhand bookshop* with assorted cats, plants, knick-nacks, incense, windchimes and espresso.

*(for which, well done Mister Powell, I just added myself to your online list Wink )

Yeahhhhh, I wanted to sell Candy Floss this summer, down in Southend. I even looked up the price of Candy Floss machines and all the gubbins (sticks, bags, flavours, etc)... that would be cool.

I had a go at being an ice cream van for the day. This involved cleaning out ice cream mix that had been left in the machine that hd gone mouldy and rancid. It was disgusting and nearly made me puke. Enought to put you off icecreams for life knowing that if the owner isnt conscientious there is gonna be something nasty stuff in the whippy machine.

I'd have my own shooting range, one where you can rent out handguns, assault rifles and sub machines guns, once our gun laws are more like Americas of course and not so restrictive

I would like to work for myself. The main concern for me is the increased risk doesnt seem to warrant the reward in any of the sectors I would have half a clue about.

Tree surgery/garden maintenance. Potentially good earnings in a wealthy area, but being dropped in over your head puts me off, and the potential theft of your (very expensive) machinery could put you under; overnight. If anybody gets wind of the value of your kit and its whereabouts, you will never sleep another peaceful night in your life.

HGV Transport... thanks to eddie stobart and co, there is no way to start at the bottom anymore by being cheaper. You would have to enter a niche and be confident of succeeding. The problems come from having to invest the thick end of 100k to get started (truck, premises, diesel, insurance, wages, mechanical support, tyre support, overheads) before you would KNOW if you were going to float or not. Given that you will probably not recieve your first payments from customers until 3 months after starting up, and how much diesel would you burn in that time?

Given that my ultimate aim is simply the modest target of paying off the mortgage, I can't see that it is worth the blood pressure and sleepless nights. My goal in life is to get to the end, I couldn't give a fuck for yachts and helipads.

An old collegue of mine bought one 2 years ago, in Scotland. Cost £120K.

I have heard your desire for the shop Jen, and think it would work in a city centre just off a high street.

Wheel clampers ought to be shot alongside traffic wardens

My business plan is simple; 'pimp my ride: Northeast' - I also have a thing for haulage and think i could make vehicle rental work so i'd plan to roll 'em all into 1 plan. Thought of the name and everything. Cool

Ideally I'd like to pioneer a new method of business I've been tinkering with. In a nut shell it would work by people just giving me money for nothing, thus cutting out the need for a middleman (product). All transactions will run smoothly and not one single person ever will be unhappy with the product.

Just an idea though.

I quite like the idea of being a porn mogul. However, despite being a frequent viewer of internet porn over the years, I've never paid a penny for it so not sure where the money would come from if so much of it is available free!

Done the photography thing for about a year. Was ok, good some good jobs and enough to keep me going. With my lack of business skills I knew I wouldn't be anything more than your average wedding/events photographer so decided to pack it in. Was starting to lose the fun factor and it was all business, not my thing.

Having your own business is a 24 hour job basically, it's not all fun and games.

Sometimes you still hate the boss though Laughing

I'd like to run an Amsterdam-style coffee shop, but here in the UK (imagining that weed is legal).
I'd grow the finest herbs known to humanity above the shop, downstairs would have all manner of comfy chairs, good music, cold drinks and delicious calorific snack products to accompany the weed smoking.
It would be a little haven of peace in an otherwise hectic world.

Thumbs Up

I didn't pay much attention at school, but i wasn't aware that Uranium was something which you cultivated in a greenhouse.
Thanks for the enlightenment.

I have thought about running my own business plenty of times, but the things I like about being PAYE far outweigh the positives of s/e in my book.

I like the fact I don't have to think about insurance, NI, tax, paperwork, that I can work 9-4.30pm and walk away at the end of the day and not have to think about it, my weekends are my own.

For me, life isn't about material goods (cars, house, household stuff), its about experiencing, seeing and doing. Thumbs Up I guess this is why I'm happy with my lot. I don't place so much emphasis on filling my life with pointless possessions, just to place me higher in a society that doesn't really interest me. Idea

Where ever I've worked, there's always been some tosser who rubs your nose in all the fancy holidays he's taking and is going to take.

I would like to be able to have a online business where workmates of people like that can get in touch, provide a location, dates and a photo, and for a modest fee we could then contract out to local yobs the task of fucking up their holiday Mr. Green
