The Ted Simon Foundation is a new non-profit organization that encourages those who adventure into the world to go the extra mile and transform their experiences into something of value for the world to share.

The Foundation is being officially launched at Coventry Transport Museum on the evening of 6th October 2011, the 38th anniversary of the beginning of Jupiter's Travels.

More information about the launch event, and the purpose and aims of the Foundation, can be found at jupiterstravellers.org

This may be of specific interest to those of you with writing, film-making, and photographic ambitions related to your journeys (planned, current, and completed).

Thanks. The post definitely isn't intended to be spam, although I hope this is the appropriate section to put it in.

First post, called what you are and linking to an event is SPAM ..

However, the beauty of BCF, is if the collective like / approve, then is passess the test as it were ...

A pm first to admin mods would of been better imo, but i'm guessing they won't give a fuck ..

And as said, travelling and world integration / understanding is A ok in my book, just a shame that so many nowadays can't afford to do it, when we being manipulated by the few for their own gain and agendas ...

Apologies if I've transgressed the rules - and to the mods for not making contact in advance. Feel free to delete this thread if it's unwanted.

The Foundation is new and so this user account is too, but I thought it best to be straightforward and open about the organisation I'm posting on behalf of and my own identity (you'll note I've used my real name rather than an alias).

Could I also stress that the Foundation is a non-profit, set up to assist adventure travellers, and not a commercial enterprise. I hope the website will demonstrate that the organisation and its aims are genuine, and therefore that my posting on here was done with the best intentions.

When you say about people not being able to afford overlanding, do you mean the general economic situation or something more specific to do with travelling?

Overlanding ... mmm nice way of putting it ... my UK and possibly wider point was that the millions of under 40 k est per annum earners are being made tp pay out more and more without wages compensating.

This ' sqeeze ' means more and more are struggling and that adventure holiday we all dream of becomes further away as a result.

This means for me, have not read your site beyond it's intro ! Smile Thumbs Up

I guess it depends, at least to some extent, on the kind of adventure holiday someone's dreaming of.

There's an increasing trend towards really low-budget travelling - especially on small bikes.

I have to say, I love Teds books, It caught me dreaming while on a flight that the travels he day way back when would be somewhat dangerous in this day and age, which is a damn pity as most of the people you would meet on the way would probably reflect those Ted met back then, just with an ever increasing danger form war and unrest in various countries.

I would love to do a RTW effort, but I value my life a little too much to give it a go (perhaps being melodramatic really, but my mind instantly recoild at the thought of siding through a few of the 'stans' these days.)

Tatters and Bencav - thanks for the positive comments.

Regarding the perceived dangers of travelling - and the 'stans in particular - the situation on the ground is very often less risky than it's portrayed in the media.

There are lots of people currently riding through the 'stans - many of them solo and all having a great time. It can be tough-going sometimes, but that's all part of travelling.

I was expecting this to be some 'use your trip to make money for rich charities' thing, but glad to see it's not Thumbs Up.

As some that really should finish the bloggy thing I started writing for my last trip and loves reading other people's, an Thumbs Up from me.

And yes, to my mind this is 'good spam' - at least they found the correct section to post in and haven't been resurrecting old threads Smile.
Also, they're not specifically asking for donations it seems (at least in the initial thread/initial impressions of the homepage), but ARE offering help to people on here.

It was reading many ride reports on advrider that partly got me through lying on the sofa with a broken leg/mashed body and the worry at the time it may not mend it's self.

Would love to do some travelling, and will do come hell or high water, in future.

Sorry if i seemed to be putting a damper on things, the big sqeeze i spoke of is bit of a bug bear for me.

It can be done on all manner of budgets, with planning and determination.

One thing that infuriated me was when Ewan Mcgregor said to camera, you see, anyone can do this, when he had more backing than Stalingrads whole defense budget. Rolling Eyes Thumbs Up

No worries Snowrider2 - hope you get to do the trip you want sooner rather than later.

Thanks 'G' for the thumbs up - glad you like the look of what we're doing.

Just noticed the thread in this section from -Ali- about his 'RTW Shenanigans' - he has a great blog and is exactly the sort of example I was thinking of in my comment above about people riding through the 'stans etc. Well worth a read.
