Hello,

I would like a Moto GP style exhaust for my 5SL R6. I particulary like the look of the Tubetech one.

I understand that these will not be road legal even with the baffles in. What sort of a fine are you looking at if copper's having a bad day? Could they put points on my licence?

I also understand that these exhausts could affect the performance of my bike and I've heard things about power commanders and re-mapping. I'm not interested in any sort of performance gain but I don't want to harm the engine. Will it run fine without any tinkering?

TIA. x

£60 no points, you are unlikely to get pulled on it though unless you attend "meets", ride in north wales or act like an arse when pulled (i.e. for small plate, dark visor, riding like a prick etc etc) and the copper wants to do you for something.

Might get a vehicle defect rectification notice which means you need to stick the old exhaust back on and take it to a MOT place to confirm it has been sorted.

Should be ok without any fuelling problems, most bikes are ok with just a can change but don't expect any gains other than noise - downpipes and air filters make a lot more difference and usually require a power commander (an electronic device that allows you to rempa the fuelling).

Perfick, cheers for that.

Am I mad to pay £270 for one? I've kept an eye out on eBay but the only cheaper ones are brands I've never heard of.

Seems like rather a lot but I am somewhat of a tight arse, a bike mag did a review of the chinese danmoto ones from ebay a few months ago and said they were brilliant for the price - the finish wasn't perfect but they cost much much less.

I'd be more tempted to get a used carbon can from scorpion, micron etc etc and chop it shorter. It'll be cheaper, retain the road legal stamps and unbaffled stubby cans are really rather loud.

Nope. Your money, your bike but be sure and keep the original one to sell when you eventually sell the bike on. Dont fall into the trap that some fall into.

"Oh I spent £1000 upgrading my brakes, respraying the wheels and a louder zorst so my bike is worth £1000 more than the going rate."

It never works like that.

Cheers guys.

As I'm looking at the exhaust as a purely cosmetic mod I think I'll take the plunge next pay-day and go with the prettiest one. I couldn't justify the £500 tag that comes with Akras etc. but £270 seems a'ight.

Akra's are usually pretty quiet anyway so you'd be let down if its sound youre after.

A megaphone can may need fueling sorted btw so factor in that you may need a Power commander.

Never had bother with my exhaust, its only 102db tho!

So if I get the above pipe and run it without baffles will I need to get a power commander and re-map it?
