1979 GP100 carb issue

I was taking a look over Luthians bike at the weekend and come across something I’m not sure of.

Basically when taking off the carb cover petrol pissed out all over the floor as it had been leaking inside the casing.
Now this is a contained carb which I’m not used to, so any leaks or anything usually just goes on the floor, as over flow pipes drop through the frame (like on my old DTR for example)

If you take a look at the photo attached, i know what everything is but I don’t know why the over flow pipes are shoved down into that hole.
Both pipes are shown to be in there, so firstly, where the F does that go?!
Secondly it isn’t the larger diameter pipe (that comes from the top of the carb) but the smaller black one that is leaking (from the float bowl).
It only leaks when then bike has been running and is then switched off. Not whilst running.
I have set the pilot jet and throttle idle properly to the Haynes, the bike runs absolutely fine.

Sounds like a slightly weepy float valve. My YR5 does it slightly even with the fuel off sometimes, as the pattern fuel tap repair kit isn't great.

overflow pipes are supposed to be shoved down there. There's a channel in the engine casing that divert the overflow waste down the otherside of the engine. If you look carefully on the other side you will see a hole where it all comes out unless its blocked.

also the small black pipe under the float bowl also doubles up as an overflow pipe as well as a drain pipe. Check the float needle valve isn't sticking.

Is this the one that was restored? It should of been replaced if so. You may need to open up and inspect.

Bit of dirt in the float bowl, possibly.

Thanks guys, i think it might be the float valve.
Ill strip this when i got time.

What gasket can i use to replace the one on the carb cover?
Also, would i need a gasket/sealent for the carb manifold into engine casing?
