Hi all

I hope someone here can give me a bit of helpful advice regarding my small issue, at the start of the year we were told about the factory closing down in febuary “I did see this coming” due to manufacturing be moved to the german/french facilities.

At first this news wasn’t too bad, because I know I can transfer my skill and knowledge to other manufacturing sectors, five months on this has changed a little bit.

My drive and motivation have all but disappeared down the bog, I’m quite a nervous person in the first place but it has escalated a bit these past two months; even my other half is starting to getting a bit worried about my condition, I’m only 27 years old and I already feel like I’m ready for the hole in the ground.

Is there any sure fire methods for controlling the signs of redundancy related stress?

Many thanks in advance

I think anyone would be stressed with imminent unemployment mate. If this is an ongoing issue I would make an appointment with your GP. You may be offered a very low dosage of this.

It seems to be the go-to solution for clinicians these days. It does work though. Many people don't realise how much anxiety affects every day life but you should take it seriously.

Alternatively, man the fuck up Laughing Wink

How about rather than waiting for the chop you get out now by finding another job....

Is all the worry and stress worth the few £K you will recieve and then be chasing jobs with all the rest.....

Hope this does not come accross to harsh as its not ment too. Karma

Cheers all

No offense taken, I fully understand what you’re saying. I didn’t wait for the chop I got straight out there a full two months before everybody else realised what was happening.

Been to the gp last week, naff all they can do for me “his words”. To be honest with you I think my anxiety is more a self induced problem (probably the pressure I am mounting on my own shoulders to try and get work rapidly), I reckon the alternative you have supplied is probable the best one I heard in a while.

Yes. Get a job. I don't mean that in the sarky way that some people might shout "get a job" at some poor sod who had been forced to live in a shop doorway. What I mean is, sort out your CV, go do some interviews, and get yourself a shiny new job - it's a huge boost to the ego.

Confidence is something that can easily be faked. Fake it for 45 minutes in the right interview and next time you won't have to fake it.

Fresh air and exercise, and no, I'm not joking or being trite.

I suffer from acute anxiety.
Your advice is spot on. Exercise gets rid of the "fight or flight" which most anxiety is.
Plus you just generally feel better.

There comes a point where anxiety goes beyond the norm and becomes a debilitating problem preventing you from functioning. At that point a short term course of something mild like Citalopram DOES help put the brakes on the stress and get your mind back under control, and it doesn't turn you into a doped-out zombie.

Got made redundant 3 weeks ago, signed on straight away with an agency to get money in while something comes up in my trade and have worked every day since (driving). Make a plan and do it, then do any job you can get to tide you over, might be shit money but its better than being on the dole and can be quite enlightening. I've seen some stuff in the last 3 weeks Laughing .
