On the back of imnosuperman's thread, how many offs have you had in how many years? And what injuries have you sustained in said offs? Will be interesting to see.

This is the third thread on this topic in as many weeks. I think perhaps we should rename the site to "CrashChatForums.com".

Riding for two years, had one off - last November when the ice first struck but the roads had yet to be salted.

I broke a rib after the bike went down on a black ice covered roundabout and my arm was shoved into my side.

Anyway i'll start

I lasted 9 days from CBT to off.
22nd August 2010 - Wet corner, lost front end and I went down, followed by the bars hitting just above my knee and snapping my femur!

15th November 2010 - Come off a roundabout with a tad too much go and was greeted by a red light no time to brake, Broke wrist, mild concussion and twisted leg. Also killed my poor betty.

14th July 2011 - Nearly T-boned a Range Rover but i binned it. No damage to me but Roxie is hurt.

I was going to say "already been one this week", but of course yesterday was a Sunday (when the last how many crashes have you had thread was started), so technically this is a new week and thus a new thread is needed!

Around 60 on the road, a lot more racing, a hell of a lot more off road.
Worst injury on the road was bad concussion from flipping a wheelie at 60mph or so with an ill fitting helmet.

2 in the last two years, both very minor, touch wood.

Overall, god knows. Far too many to remember. Loads and loads on scramblers/trials as a youth. Less on the roads, but enough to not want to court any more, thanks.

Ah sorry posted from my phone as I have no internet at home, the browser is slow at best and search function doesn't work.

I've been off 4 times in the last 2 years, first off while testing the brakes in my works car park in the wet... definitely my fault and avoidable!

Second was coming off a roundabout and the car in front braked for a gap you could've got a tank through, probably following too close and fast in the wet.

Third was having a car move to the right, then turn across the front of me, but I was doing 50/60 on a 40 road by the time I'd started braking.

And my latest was going too fast round a corner and crappy tyres lost traction.

Not broken a bone on my bike or even in my life, just ended up with road rash and bruises.

All these were on my 125s.

At a guess 9 or so (no counting offroad stuff) My worse injury is either a broken toe

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v295/chris-red/IMG00021-20101202-2305.jpg

or the burn on my leg from falling off the KTM

Since I started riding about 10 years ago, I've had two crashes 10 years apart. First was when I was 16 and a woman pulled out on me on my scooter and flew over the bonnet and the other was a few month ago when I hit that Chinese woman but didn't come off the bike.

Neither of them serious or any injury to me.

2 offs.

Black ice. In January there (it'd been raining all night too). No damage to me and a new RHS fairing for the bike.

Couple of years back my marauder got written off by getting buried in a megane, (rear ended). At least the bitch's car was a write off as well.
Had a big yellow paint transfer on my right boot from a lorry that was hooring down the road the opposite way.

copypasta from other thread

11

10 on bike
1 in car

Worst one, 27th Feb 2008. Hit a Ford Galaxy right in the drivers door after he pulled out about 5 feet away from me

Damage wise I was in a coma for a few days, broken part of my neck, damaged my spine, broke ALL of my ribs (ok I say broke, 7 were broke the rest were fractured), shattered both of my ankles, broke my legs, lost most pain reception in my right arm and leg and got away with some slight brain damage causing random twitching on my right hand side.

Not too bad I'm still alive

I've been riding about 6 years, some years I ride more than others. Didnt ride much last year. My first 4 years I probably did about 1 off a year. I was pretty lucky with all of them not to get injured much.

I like to think I'm not going to have any more offs for quite a while as the ones I had were all things I wouldnt do now.

However if I make mistakes now, it may be more serious ones at higher speeds, rather than the biking equivalent of tripping over my own shoelaces.

I plan to ride well within my limits, and leave pushing the boundaries to others, like my former friend who splatted into a tree and is with us no more. Not big, not clever, just a complete waste.

Since I've owned a car, I can even imagine a future without a motorbike, however due to the costs of car ownership, I'm more tempted to imagine a future without a car, but this would limit my future job choices.

As fucked up as it sounds, it's nice to know most of these offs were due to speeding or misjudgment of the biker.

Been riding for 30 years, had countless little off's but only 2 major one's.

1985 lowsided a Gpz 750 on a up hill right hand hairpin, this was in Germany by the way, bike slid across the road with me still under it,
not a mark on me, feeling rather chuffed with my self i was about to get up when a van hit me, hit me with enough force to drive the petrol tank through my right knee joint, all but severing my leg, 10 months in hospital, countless operations, got a new knee joint installed in 2000.

2005 on my Bandit 12 trying to make the back end slide out whilst roundabout surfing, got it to slide out like a pro, a pro with no clue, bike dumped me, landed on the sharpe edge of a curb stone just below my left shoulder, got up dusted my self down and picked the bike up, i thought that i had just dead armed my self, turns out that i had severed 3 tendons and split a muscle, had it not been for body armour,God knows.

Got the Hayabusa now so i should be safe.

Why? Laughing

Because I'm starting riding in the next few months but my main and only concern is safety. If the thread was full of SMIDSY's, I'd be a bit concerned as these are relatively hard to avoid. If the thread was full of "I was going 80 on an NSL and misjudged a bend" it would make it (biking in general) feel less dangerous, basically if you didn't speed = you wouldn't have crashed.

So if there are two types of offs, those that are caused by a minor misjudgment on the biker or drivers behalf which could happen to anyone, or those that are caused by hooning it, going 80 on an NSL for example. If the thread was full of off type #1, it would be more concerning than if the thread was full of off type #2's.

It's all psychological, it doesn't change anything. Obviously a thread about offs makes no difference to how dangerous or safe biking is, it would just make me feel better Smile Kinda hard to explain lol.

Edited now so it actually make sense lol. Was writing this on my phone at 7am after a 12 hour night shift. My phone was playing up so fucked it off and went to bed.

Old Thread Alert!

The last post was made 14 years, 305 days ago. Instead of replying here, would creating a new thread be more useful?
