Dont really know how this going to pan yet as it is obviously very early days however it is my hope that I can get it running reasonably and get it road legal once again. Will worry about any minor cosmetic issues it may have after that stage is complete
Day one - Stage one - liberally douse whole bike with all WD40 left in my shed.
Discovered battery looks half empty but hoping it might charge up after a top up. Discovered choke lever and cable in a plastic bag so that probably wont aid starting. Shock appears to be predominantly rust, same with chain although hoping that will scrub up for the meantime. ____________________ Harold_Shand wrote: I suppose it's like anything, you get your fingers burned when you start out, you learn from it and eventually become a complete arsehole about the whole thing. |

Parts from other Yamaha's of this vintage may well fit. I know ive got a few bits from other Yams on my TRX. So dont go looking for just 250 bits.
What length is the shock? I have a few ive been using to test fit into my TRX. ____________________ Suzuki GT250 x7------- Fazer 600------CB250RS------Aprilia Rally 70----- Bandit 600

I had heard this. Havent measured the shock yet. I am being fairly methodical with my spending for the meantime - just gonna get try and get it running before i think about anything further down the line. Will drop you a PM i fi make it that far ____________________ Harold_Shand wrote: I suppose it's like anything, you get your fingers burned when you start out, you learn from it and eventually become a complete arsehole about the whole thing. |

Its runs!
All it wanted was a good lung full of easy start and it was off. Idling pretty high and was only going for a couple of mins as the radiator is in the shed but progress none the less. Happy days! ____________________ Harold_Shand wrote: I suppose it's like anything, you get your fingers burned when you start out, you learn from it and eventually become a complete arsehole about the whole thing. |

Fire some fuel down the carb - not too much though - and run it then see if the pipe is getting warm. If it is you need to sort the carbs, though from the sounds of things you need to do that anyway. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

She's mine now, needs a bit of work right enough, but i will get there....
So far have serviced the forks, rebuilt the subframe, removed engine, added a rear hugger, moved the bars above the yokes, stripped the tank, fitted a new seat unit, replaced rear shock...
Plenty more to do, biggest concern is the swiss cheese header pipes, but looking at getting some 32mm stainless and hiring a pipe bender..
Ditched the exup valve, gonna keep it simple even if it means a loss of torque (like it has any anyway).... ____________________ Chocolate powered tick magnet. |

turned into a typical "street fighter"
also would it not be better as you have used a mito seat unit, integrate the rear lights into the fairing instead of being bodged on underneath? ____________________ was: derbi senda, aprilia sx125, nsr250 mc16, cagiva mito, cb600 hornet now: mk1 bandit, KR1S, landrover series 3 light weight 2.5 petrol, 5speed box |
