so i got my mk1 a while back, well it was and still is more of a shed than bandit. sprry for the use of a potato camera.

a number of fails due to the previous owner like the tab washer not being used
https://sphotos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/336285_10151230682736320_1645337503_o.jpg

then i got the tank paint by a friend that does mobile body work out of the back of his van, he did this at the side of the road.

i then thought i should do some maintenence to i adjust the tappets, lock-nuts ftw!
https://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/290306_10151264926781320_521774554_o.jpg

then made the exhaust rather abusive and fruity.
https://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/176143_10151284574436320_745547068_o.jpg
I then bought some cams from a gsxr1100K (propper job, swap camchain sprockets and time up)https://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/470308_10151390033606320_908077801_o.jpghttps://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/412017_10151390033071320_1108948304_o.jpg

now that was all good and well for the time being, but it felt as if it was being held back all the time. But not for long.

https://sphotos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/740837_10151429181776320_185787434_o.jpg

And then these came
https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/59889_10151434521951320_666685012_n.jpg
https://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/705033_10151435085771320_523888466_o.jpg

then because i did away with the airbox i had to have somewhere for the engine to vent so i made this. red and white is dye penetrant and developer.

then my birthday came along and my parents got me this, just to match the downpipes.
https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/774220_10151448739531320_1904923319_o.jpg
https://sphotos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/58200_10151448741616320_1112872786_n.jpg

then after a while messing about with the jetting i took it to a dyno
and i was ermm, well very happy
https://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/943624_10151656128166320_964118241_n.jpg
i was expecting no more than 120.

oh and i changed the clutch fluid as it was abit on the grim side Laughing
https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/399722_10151647394926320_132511658_n.jpg

then i bought this the otherday aswell a DOT head
https://sphotos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/392560_10151644695271320_1553725737_n.jpg

and it now looks like this
https://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/860768_10151523615036320_233046964_o.jpghttps://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/857685_10151533527706320_1810927631_o.jpghttps://sphotos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/885466_10151545861186320_1482866711_o.jpg

apparently changing both cams makes the midrange grunt not so impressive and the top end mental, is this true? Im thinking of camming my b12 engined gsx6f as it doesnt seem to be scaring me enough anymore, apparently doing just inlet gives them a good solid punch of torque.

Cheers
John

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.

i put both in cus im a bellend and yes it does make them fairly peaky, there's naff all that really happens below 6k, but as its a fair lump of engine it will pull from low speeds in top. it gets to 6k starts picking up then at about 8 it goes mad, peak hp is at 9k then it just keeps revving.

just remember to swap your cam sprockets though.

also losing 2 teeth of the front sprocket makes it rather lively if you get abit choppy with the throttle. on my private road flat out in top is an indicated 150, will be gearing it back up soon so will have another bash then, as it did more indicated before exhaust and filter.

i found the bottom end grunt really boring and it felt to have a severe lack of go, almost as if they just wanted you to bimble around on them.

for engine mods have a read of this
