Hey Everyone,

Was wondering if you can help me out big time here as i'm currently researching the affect Weather has on Motorcycle Accidents as part of my Master's Dissertation at University, and would greatly appreciate it if you could take 5 minutes to answer this quick survey which comprises of 20 questions max, requires no contact details and is anonymous.

The link to the survey is as follows:

https://www.kwiksurveys.com/?s=NOHNFI_d3b4c488

I am a Biker myself and have personally fallen foul to a slippery rain sodden road, which is one of the reasons i chose this title. The last 2 grim winters also act as motivation to research this.

I'll be sure to post any interesting overall findings I find from the research on here in a few weeks time and welcome any extra thoughts you have regarding the affect Weather has on motorcycles.

I should also point out this is being done purely for research purposes at University and there is no financial backing from any government organisation or private business.

Obviously you don't have to do this survey if you don't want to, if so sorry for wasting your time, but I would greatly appreciate the feedback, thanks in advance Very Happy

I stopped at question 8 - none of them really dissuade me from using a motorbike.
When I was commuting daily, I'd still happily take the bike out through the snow, etc. I did get some studded tyres on a trail bike which meant I had better traction than cars in most situations.
But even before that, I'd choose to take the sports bike over the car through the Snow - as it still took half the time or less.

Thats fair enough G, in hindsight i should have had a option to select 'none of them dissuade you', a big part of the research is to assess what percentage of bikers aren't really bothered by the weather and just adapt to it so thanks for your input. And sorry to here that Sham, not sure why its doing that, but thanks anyway.

Question 18 makes no sense, I have stopped there.

Quote:
18. In the future (several decades) how significant do you think each of these factors will be in terms of affecting your decision to either stop or continue using a motorcycle.
5 stars = Incredibly significant
1 star = Barely significant

So for example 'Warmer and Dryer Summers occur as predicted' if I give it 5 stars it could mean I hate hot weather so that'll encourage me to stop riding, or it could mean I love hot weather so I'm definately going to continue riding.

Duh!

Jim Mc you are exactly right it could mean either of those things, and thanks for highlighting what is likely a badly thought out question.

The point of question 18 is given what we already know about the relationship between motorcycle accidents and the factors listed in this question can we predict how motorcycle accident numbers may alter in the future. For example it appears the number of motorcycle accidents correlates well to the average daily maximum temperature in Great Britain, which makes sense as warmer weather means there will likely be more bikers out on the road that could be involved in an accident. But if you guys all give 'Warmer and Dryer Summers' 1 star and 'The Price of Petrol' 5 stars it would make no sense to say 'oh its going to be 1 degree Celsius warmer in 2100 thus there will be 100 more accidents a year' because if petrol prices goes up threefold say the warmer and dryer summer won't matter as petrol price is a lot more important to you.

So actually i have cautiously assumed from road accident data that because the most accidents occur on the hottest days that bikers actually do like the hot weather. So yep a badly worded question Embarassed
Thanks again for highlighting this, and cheers to everyone else who has completed it so far, much appreciated.

Done. Weather makes no difference to whether i take the bike out/to work etc. I just adapt my riding style and take into account the different conditions and how to handle them.
