Well i bought this bike as a heap (!) to do up as a winter project...two winters later lol it's starting to come together. I've rebuilt the engine, fitted new stanchions, replacement seat, powdercoated and painted frame, swing arm etc, a few other new odds and ends here and there.

Long story short, tonight was the moment of truth for engine! I couldn't actually believe it but turn the petrol tap on, pull the choke out, ignition on, one good kick and away she went!

Still needs a bit of tweaking as i can't get it to idle correctly when it's warm (maybe more rust in the carb...i'll post that in the workshop section) but it sounds really sweet!

Lots more still to do...sort the electrics, rear indies, one or two lamps but it's almost ready for an MOT. Chuffed to bits am I !! Smile

Just needs tank decals and the numberplate bracket painted!

What do you mean by 'powdercoated AND painted' frame?

Well the frame was powdercoated as it came from a donor bike i picked up but the swingarm i stripped and painted (used hammerite smooth and gently baked in the oven).

The tank badges are now on and the rear indicator mounts are on the process of being refinished...tonight i checked the wheel alignment and chain tension then fitted the split pins to the nuts that need them.

A mate has a 6v battery charger so i'll let him know now is the time to charge the battery...got a new one and acid pack ready to go. Then i can do a full check of all the ancillary electrics....

I like it.

And now we need a youtube video of you wheelie-ing it down the street. Ideally while whooping hysterically.

The electrics turned out to be pretty healthy although the indicators seemed to be fairly dim...after much checking of wiring and head scratching i discovered that the problem was they'd all been fitted with 8w lamps instead of 21w as the manual states!

Once that was rectified with new lamps i found that the indicators on the right hand side refused to work so out came the multimeter again. The lamp at the back which had been working ok suddenly developed a short giving a reading of just 0.6 ohms across it!...visually it looked perfectly ok and i've dealt with many lamps over the years mostly 240v but i've never seen a lamp just short like that before....

I happened to notice that the rear tyre which is quite old has a couple of small cracks in the sidewall just below the tread so another one ordered and arrived today...that's my task for the weekend!
