Hi all,

Just bought my first bike, yamaha SR125.

It has to live outside under a cover, and I've had to remove the wingmirrors to allow a good fit with the cover.

My worry is that I will strip the soft alloy 'sockets' with the harder steel mirror stalks if I keep fitting and removing the wingmirrors each ride. About 2 rides a week.

I'm loathe to buy a bigger cover, as the current one is quite big, it's just the hight of the mirrors that is the issue.

Have coated the threads with copper grease to try to lessen any problems.

Am I panicking for no reason, or will I knacker me threads. The alloy does seem very soft

I had to replace the mirrors on my sr, as they were frankly, knackered. When I removed them I found that the threads were already a mess, which made putting the new mirrors in a hassle.
I'd imagine that so long as you aren't ham fisted though you should be ok, make sure it's all lined up, take it gently and don't force the issue.

My right hand threads are already a bit knackered from previous owner, so the right hand stalk can only locate halfway.

I'm trying to be as careful as poss, the metal is so soft it's like it's made from cheese!

Will your cover fit on if you loosen the mirror mount or switchgear then turn the mirror up or down.

Good suggestion, I'll have a look in the morning.

Also, looking at a few pics online, a lot of the sr125s have different looking mirrors to mine.

They have black plastic 'barrels' at a joint in the stalks, as oppose to it just being a single steel stalk. These look like they might turn (difficult to see from the pics). I wonder if it's to allow the mirrors to fold?

I'm new to bikes, so sorry if that sounds stupid.
