Just at the planning stage, but...

I'm thinking of doing a trip from Delhi to the Himalayas it's only a 3-4 day ride each way.

I've looked through the various sites that offer such tours but they all seem to charge £3k+ not including the flights for a rider and pillion!

I currently live over in India (on business for the year) so can't pass up the opportunity to go for it, but the price is shocking. I've been in contact with a local travel agent I used for a trip earlier in the year (Taj Mahal, Jaipur & Delhi) and it looks like the price could be about a third of that quoted by the UK based travel agents (about 1k for rider+pillion not including flights).

Thing is I'd fancy doing it with a few more people and non of my real life mates are bikers. So, anyone up for it in principle? I'm thinking October, maybe even take in the Indian F1 at the end of the tour.

I'll get more details if anyone is genuinely interested, like I said - I'm just at the planning stage at the moment.

I'm in Australia at the moment and heading back to the Uk in a little over a week, about to fly off to Malaysia, so not enough time to give you a full reply, but I spent a few years riding bikes in India and acted as a guide for a number of tours over the Himalayas. I can give you a bunch of info on your routes and companys in either Delhi or Manali that you can rent a bike from and yes do it much cheaper than 3 grand. I have some great friends up in the Himalayas that can steer you in the right direction too. Look out for more info when I get settled in K/L in a few days.

You will need to carry some jets about 25% bigger than standard as the air gets so thin your bike will run lean at altitude.

I thought that thin air (less O2) would lead to incomplete combustion, therefore running rich. Question

Yup its a Enfield 500. Wouldn't do it on anything else out there.

I've made it to Malaysia, so still sporadic internet, do you want to start a new thread in the touring and expedition forum? Can start a clean slate then, with the correct spelling of the place you are heading to! Smile

usual trick is to remove the air filter and bung a pair of tights over the airbox snorkel just to stop it eating flies n shit.
