...where I'm beginning to despise stupid, ignorant, selfish fucking car driving cunts. There must have been have a dozen occasions this afternoon on my way home from work when I was almost taken out by the blinkered morons. Pulling out from the lft, right, turning right across me, accelerating as you pass them, even though they've been slower than slow all the time you've been catching them up. I mean, why? Why do they do it? Do they really not like us? It has started to make me really assess my route, corners and the like. I'm well aware of where the junctions are on my commute and where the likely impact points will be and the appropriate avoidance and escape routes. The cyclists who I narrowly missed, through no fault of their own when the dick pulled out on my left out in the countryside causing a heyuge swerve must still be cleaning their pants up. And there was absolutely no need for him to pull out in the way he did. Total arse.

It really spoiled my ride home, which I'd been really looking forward to as I'd had such a shitty day at work. The ride there was quality though, did the A1 in the early morning sunshine. Made sure I abided by the speed limits at all times too.... Wink

The only redeeming factor today was that the weather was good, and there was loads of bikes out. All of whom acknowledged. Warm and fuzzy. As was the toddler who waved at me through Bawtry. Hope he remembers the big biker who waved back at him for a long time. Made me wonder what effect that had on his little psyche...

I love my car, but this looks very appealing.

No, I'm going to shut up now. One of the points of getting the bike was to reduce my stress levels commuting in the car, and it works, most days, just today was really irritating. Possibly something to do with the crap I've dealt with at work...

I feel you get good and bad days, and hopefully the good days outweigh the bad.

I think today was by far the worst day i've ever had on the bike, i've been riding about 6 years now. I can only put it down to idiots driving because of the summer holidays.

I had one today, joining the A27 from Brighton, coming down the sliproad, done my lane check, first lane was empty, a silver car on the outside lane, I thought nice one, indicated and started coming out only to find the stupid fuckwit of a woman turning into me, cue me doing a ~70mph swerve and brake because she nearly hit me.

To make this worse I was riding with my other half on the back. 30 seconds later down the road, another fuckwit pulls from the left lane to the right lane, odd thing is i'm doing ~70mph, he was doing 45mph, he had NOTHING infront of him, no junction with merging traffic etc, just decided to swap lanes.

Two cunts inside a minute. Wont stop me riding though, but I feel your pain!

You have to do what the rest of us do, drive a car and cope with traffic or ride a bike and not be seen.

If that doesn't work then walk but ffs you're preaching to the choir here. Rolling Eyes Laughing

I have not decided that every car i encounter, will do something stupid. Like Brake for no reason, pull out on me at the last minute, swap lanes in front of me for no reason.

If people drive sensibly and don't do the above, its a bonus Smile

Good start Smile.
Get "Motorcycle Roadcraft" and have a read through that, then consider IAM etc - so you'll get to the point of predicting 99% of the stupidity and can have a little laugh to yourself when you've already avoided the situation before it happens Smile.

That ^.

If you are expecting stupidity then you don't have the shit your pants "wtf do I do" moment, you either get yourself away from the situation altogether or swiftly carry out your predetermined backup plan.

I had two idiot cars last night, luckily (I guess) they were together so I only had to deal with them once.. Except I didn't!
On the way out to a bat survey I got stuck behind two cars at a set of pedestrian crossing lights, fair enough, but then the lights went to flashing amber, and the twats still sat there until they went green! There was no bugger using the crossing after the lights went to amber!! They then set of and didn't go too badly, until we got to the NSL, where they stuck to a merry 40 for several miles before finally pissing off. There was nowhere I felt comfortable overtaking either, so I was stuck too.

Then, on the way home, I got stuck behind the twunts again!! as they did 20 through the streets of Northampton.

You got back unscathed, you should be pleased with your own hazard perception and not let others indescretions bother you. Idea

I get this a lot too! Kids are mesmerized by the whole idea of bikers/bikes! Walked into a shop the other day with my helmet in my hand, and a little toddler with his mum kept waiving, smiling and pointing at me....the mum was pretty interested to! Wink

Head up mate, little perks like that, plus the fact that bikers are just COOL should keep you on two wheels rather than four. Just think that "EVERYONE on the road is a fool but me!" and that should keep your hazard perception high! Karma

Because like it or not, most people aren't looking beyond the end of their bonnet. If in fact, they are even concentrating that hard.

It is nothing so complex as "do they really want to kill me". You have simply not entered their vision, and if you do, its pot luck again that you might enter their conscious thought, and subsequent actions. They have simply not considered you, period.

It's a fact, that your average schmo is just not cut out to be driving, but it doesn't stop them being out there and in the majority.

The trick is to let it wash over you like some kind of zen master of patience, calm and forgiveness, and when you learn how to do that....

Tell me how.

Get a loud pipe Thumbs Up

On saturday some dick in an Audi did see my friend as she was lineing up to overtake him, he moved out towards her and put his foot down Shocked She only rides a 250 ninja so it's lack of grunt gave problems, My turn next and Audi twat didn't try it again, I don't know if the sv at 9K with no baffle made him think "fuck that" but I was keeping an eye on him and my thumb on the horn button ready to blast the cunt if he started moving over on me (Nautilus horn FTW, if you like seeing people try to open sunroofs with thier heads)

I expect every car driver to be a total bel-end who has left thier glasses at home, It's amaising how often I am proved right... Even a Think Bike sticker does not garantee the driver is looking out for bikes.

Venting your opinion of the offending driver works well, although when I'm driving my bus and get cut up I have to remember to keep quiet Embarassed

I bow to your wisdom, oh Zen master. I shall stop over analysing and read the Roadcraft book until my eyes bleed.

Seriously, thanks for that, I need the voice of reason occasionally. It's usually the missus, but now and then it needs to be outside the comfort zone. It helps.

I love when that car who you stayed clear of and KNEW that you should, but can't quite pin point exactly WHY, does something fucking stupid. Makes me feel like an altogether higher level of road user (which we HAVE to be to live, i suppose). Some of them are obvious but the ones who LOOK normal but still manage to trigger my biker-radar are the ones that make me smile.

When I did my CBT my instructor asked "Do you drive a car" my answer was NO with a big smile on my face. He replied with good as car drivers have the attention span of 10minutes split in two, for pulling away and then parking at the end. And bikers need 100% attention 100% of the time.

Car drivers spend 99% of their time following that bugger in front getting frustrated. When I started to drive I noticed how little car drivers look for anyone.

If you wanna be noticed get a Truck. The F*ckers are terrified they are gonna get squashed by 'em.

I must admit, I'm starting to do the same. It's helped with me being a big bloke and my riding position on the Hornet making me spread out and look a lot bigger (done shoulders twice this week, they're like boulders today), so I'm in that mentality at times.

I'm still smiling at that little 'un waving at me... Smile
