More money breaking a bike than selling a bike?

trying to flog my zx7r and from what i can see i'd get much more money than selling te bike whole. Has anyone else come to the same conclusion? I doubt i'l get more than £1200 for it and reckon the parts sold individually will end up making more money.

ive just broke a zx7r and can say there very good breakers front end advertised compleat with yokes calipers wheel etc as for streetfighter sold £500 also the panels sell well for around £100 each panel if in good condition
although i do still have the engine (

It's definitely worth more in parts if you can stand the hassle of listing all the bits separately.

Sell the engine first if it runs, then you can demonstrate it running when the buyer comes to collect.

Depends on the bike, but it's the hassle factor, packaging and posting it all securely, and it will take longer, much longer.

I tried it once, didn't care for it much.

Depends on condition in my opinion. Broke a few bikes over the last few years and as long as you can bare with having the house/garage cluttered with bits of bike then its ok.

When i advertise, i always say im breaking a complete bike, that way, people ask if i have such and such a part and saves me listing everything. Saves on fees and some hassle if people want more than one bit.

My '83 gsx 750 ESD sold for £1186.31p.
I factored in all parts, listing fees, selling fees, paypal fees and that was the total value left in my hand after all deductions.

Only thing not factored was time as it was my own time and it took me about a day to strip and a month to sell the lot.
Only two items didn't sell. The rear undertray and a pair of camshafts.

I would have let the bike go for £800 cash on the final day of sale.

Current '93 Katana 750 F on ebay and doing...ok... not as much interest as the ESD but I reckon will see me back around the 8 - 900 mark but is taking longer than the other to sell.

It seems to be a supply and demand thing. Carbs, cdi's, looms and coils seem to go the fastest in my personal experience, although the fairings went fast from the ESD. The F ones are still here but I'm putting that down to the fact I'm not posting both front sides and the two rear side panels as they are too cumbersome.

It depends on the bike. I bought a couple of basket case KH250s and sold the bits off on Ebay a while back. I doubled my money even with fees, postage etc. Its alright doing it if you have the time and you don't mind being left with boxes of bits nobody wants...

I broke a CRM 250 that I seized a few years ago, the bike cost me just under £800 to buy and I made a clear £1200 after all costs. The bulk of it went within a week on an owners forum and the rest on ebay with a week or so.

Small child has broken 3 of his bikes in the past and every time pulled in more than he would have got selling them complete.

Obviously a lot depends on the bike, but good plastics and front ends usually fetch good money as these are generally what people are after following an off.

Engines can get you a chunk of money, but can be slow to shift,

Everything will eventually sell if you wait long enough, or you can just bundle up what you have left as 1 job lot of odds and sods.

To advertise either put a breaking stylee ad on a relevant owners forum or bung everything individually on ebay on a free listing weekend.
