Basically, my fantastic bike, no faults whatsoever ( Laughing ), smooth runner etc Rolling Eyes is going through a tough time and looking rather worse for wear.

The idea of SF'ing it at the BBQ came up...and it would seem fairly logical to do so. Fairing is cracked pretty much everywhere, its fairly tatty, not overly but scuffs are about 6ft long etc Laughing

Got any do's and dont's... planning to go for a single headlight, possibly HID like Doovy's hairnet.. but the issue of covering the rear end after taking plastics off etc.

Its a GSXR750. It will look better with fairings.

GSXR's have lots of nasty white plastic bottles and a load of unsightly wiring and hoses that fairings cover up. You'll need to do a LOT of work to make that go away.

It'll always look worse than a tatty fairing. Why not buy a chinese replacement fairing kit? It has to be better than streetfightering it.

Streetfightering and tasteful don't really go together Wink

You can repair the fairing using various techniques - drill holes at the end of cracks to stop them, use soldering iron to weld back together or else use fibreglass to reinforce the inside, then filler and get a respray. Much more satisfying IMO and you'll end up with something worth a lot more.

I know there is some proper work, for sure.

I was going to buy a genuine fairing set on ebay WITH a new tank, was at £169 collection from essex, not far at all.

He sold the left panel separately Rolling Eyes

Hi

Streetfighter a sports bike without a hell of a lot of work (ie, without replacing yokes, hiding wiring, cooling pipes, disguising sensors, decent lights, exhaust that looks some good, etc) will just look like a bodged up badly crashed road bike. Worse than one with a bit of gravel rash.

Most would be better described as rat bikes which have't yet needed the paint touching up with a matt black rattle can.

All the best

Keith

I did debated the yellow chinky fairing as there was a yellow tank on egay for £20.. but the fairing kits are quite pricey.

Im not bothered about it looking immaculate and totally aware there are bottles and pipes everywhere... and im not too fussed about hiding them. But currently... its beaten. I'll get proper up close detailed photos.

The headlight itself is pointing to the right slightly but it does look wonky now you mention it.... Awesome manufacturing there!

Paddy - stick a huge sticker over the dent in your tank. Jobs a goodun!

Not necessarily.

Buy another tank, they are cheap enough.
Then drop it in at a sprayer, along with a section of the new fairings, and get it sprayed up to match.
Wont cost much over £50 for the tank painting.

Then just leave the bike as it is, a few tatty farings look far better than a half cocked streetfighter job.

I think streetfightering a bike is a good idea either when it's been crashed and you need it back on the road cheaply and quickly as a functional mode of transport no matter how crap it looks, or when you're prepared to spend thousands of pounds and hundreds of hours on a never ending obsession to build your perfect looking naked.

If you have a commuter that looks a bit tatty and you're on a budget, spend the money on tyres, overhaul the brakes and forks yourself for next to nowt, maybe get a decent rear-shock and give it a fluids, filters and cables service…. It’ll feel fresh as a daisy so you probably wont care about how it looks anymore.

Scuffed fairings and dented tanks take second priority to road-worthiness for me, especially if I'm on a tight budget.

See I do agree... but its going to get to the point where im stunting it, so fairing would either come off or be smashed when I eventually bin it.

If I find a clean set of fairings from a 600 750 or 1000 Y>K3 I may well snap them up.
