So there I was, about to hit a NSL road, when I hear this tap on my helmet.
Figured a bug just bounced off the top. So I close the visor and BAM!
Less than an inch from my eyeball is a fucking wasp. Naturally I freaked out, and did a little poop in my unmentionables.
Quickly maneuvered to the side of the road, launched the helmet off my head (Landed softly luckily) and calmed down with a cigarette.

So here's my question: I got away without getting stung in the eye by the little basta'd. Anyone ever been stung in the face whilst riding? Or has a wasp or bee sting caused you to come off?

Riding back from the BCF BBQ yesterday I hit a bee at 80-90mph down a country lane, it got stuck in my neck.

It's still itching now!

I had to get nokia-keys (one of the other guys, not my phone) to pull it out. Bad times!

No i haven't had a wasp or a bee, but they do bloody hurt even at 40! like getting shot from a distance by a bb bullet... so i can't imagine c-dug's pain. Razz

I've had a bee (I believe) hit my right eye when i was trying to get my top speed, so about 55mph LOL and my right eye has watered when riding ever since... Didn't think to put my visor down tbh... Sad oh well. The damage is done..... Dont affect me too much, but it's quite hard to ride with blurry vision believe it or not xD

I had the exact same one time. just saw the yellow and black stripes and freaked. never even pulled over properly, just ripped my helmet open and tried to get it out.

Fun times.

I tend to ride with my visor down and snood on now just because of that.

And the time i got smacked in the eye by a stone a few months back and was blind for an hour or so.

Got one in my mouth when I was cycling. The little bastard hit me in the top lip as I spat him out Evil or Very Mad Took all the antihistamines I could find and it still swelled like a balloon Sad (Tho everyone else seemed to think it was funny....)

I don't count myself as particularly allergic to wasp stings, either, so I would just say if you ever swallow one and get stung in the back of the mouth/throat, call an ambulance while you can still talk and breathe Neutral

Wotcha.

Yep - had one sting me inside the ear. One got up the sleeve of my jacket and stung me. Several stings around my left tit when one got in my jacket . . . . then the little bugger got me on the back of the neck when I stopped and took my coat off.
Ok - so they sting ( see what I did there ? ) but that's about all they do.
Just try not to panic when one gets inside your lid - I would imagine crashing is a tad more painful than a wasp sting.

I'm now old enough not to care about wasp stings when riding - been there, done that.

I often wonder how the little cnuts get inside my lid when my visor's down. I'm pretty sealed tbh. What IS the point of wasps anyway? I'm sure I can't work it out.

Could be worse, could be them giant black carpenter bees that you get in the south of Spain. They're like the bikers of the insect world. Black, noisy and couldn't give a fuck...

I managed to catch a bee with my left nipple at about 70, a year or so back. Didn't sting through the textiles I was wearing, but it felt like a sodding bullet.

had one hit me right in the eye at about 70, couldnt see for a few seconds, the shock sent me into a wobble. I just tried to keep as straight as possible and came to a stop.

It was hard to see for the next 30mins of my journey because my eye watered so much.

Ha....i can go one better. I was yawning on my pushbike the other day and i actually swallowed one. Stung the back of my throat and i managed to cough it up and spat it out. Thinkin' it might all go tits up rather quickly, i punched 999 into my mobile just in case and just waited.

Anyway, although it bloody hurt and it swelled a little i was fine, even managed to finish my cycle ride. So i guess im either very tolerant of wasp stings or it only half got me. My y-fronts needed a good wash mind Rolling Eyes

Me and wasps don't get on. Bees are fine, got stung 2yrs ago... up the sleeve of my jacket.
Wasps i have a nasty if not amusing reaction to. I swell. Last time, i was stung on my eyebrow. After 2 days i couldn't open either eye.

That's why i ride with my cock out. (top tip for all you 'pinkies' out there.)

Never actually been stung, but like some I've had the odd unidentified insect in my eye when riding

...and obviously had quite a few significant splats on my visor, jacket and headlight etc

I have never been stung in the face but got stung on the neck, and had a midge go straight into my eye with visor open.

Worst I have had so far is a big bug in the eye, very painful, but thankfully it was my bad eye so I was still able to see! Always ride with my visor down now Smile

Had a bee in my helmet years ago - the sting caused the side of my head to swell up so much I couldn't get the b*stard off for about an hour... The bee came of worst though so karma was restored.

Got hit by a flying pheasant at the weekend - that was fun. I had my arm out to ask someone to overtake me as I didn't know where I was going, and it flew up and hit my hand. Nearly wrenched my arm out of its socket. The big problem came when the bloke from over the road who was following at the time me told my wife I'd fisted a bird...
