 Posted: 20:57 - 25 Jul 2011 Post subject: Advice on parts for my 1991 AF1 Futura 125 |
 |
|
Hi, this is my first post so im new to all this. to cut a long story short i have just purchased a AF1 125cc Futura Sport, its a 1991 model and i brought it from ebay, it was someones un-finished project.
Its just had an engine rebuild, new bearings, bushes, brake pads, hoses etc powder coated wheels, brand new michelin sporty tyres, paint job, carbon can, gold chain and spockets, new battery, and various other things done to it, but is missing a few parts.
I need an
Air Box
Oil Tank
petrol cap
wind shield
indicators
mirrors
the problem im having is sourcing these i have phoned basically every supplier on google and no one stocks items for this model anymore!, there must be someone who does compatable parts, or does anyone know if any parts for another aprilia model are compatable? or can anyone help with a supplier?
any advice will be appreciated... thanks |

Hi
Airbox is common the the RS125 I think. It is very similar but never put a pair beside each other to check. Probably need an early shape one to get a connector from the carb to the airbox to suit the 34mm carb.
Think the oil tank is unique to the Futura, but also suspect it is something for which there is little demand 2nd hand. Keep an eye on Ebay for a 2nd hand one, or for someone who posts up a load of Futura bits.
Petrol cap is shared with the RS125 I think. Pattern ones are available I think.
Screen is probably best to source a pattern one. Should be a few around. There was a new Aprilia one on Ebay for a while but going for silly money.
Indicators are the same as early RS125s, and I think pattern ones are available.
Mirrors are a pig. You really do not want original Aprilia ones (even if you could find them) as they were very weak. However a few other bikes mirrors will fit. Not certain but I think some GSXR mirrors and possibly 'busa ones fit and look about right (got some on mine, but forgotten which bike they came from). Available as pattern bits for not a massive amount.
All the best

Hi
The airbox is a fiddle to fit but not that bad. Just the effort of trying to get it into place in the frame. If you really struggle you can unbolt the subframe and move it back a bit of slide the airbox into place.
Oil tank should be easy to fit once you find one. fits on the side of the subframe under the seat.
You will struggle to find a manual. Owners handbooks turn up occasionally (not see a UK one in ages though) but never seen a workshop manual for the Futura. Engine manuals are available fair easily though (either download one or speak to Peter Knight on 0176 141 4106).
All the best

Hi
Afraid ages since I did much to the Futura.
Problem us that the airbox is pretty bulky an needs to fit within the subframe.
Take the petrol tank off (turn the petrol off first). You might be able to manipulate it into place. If not you might be able to remove the carb to give yourself a bit more space (you will need to disconnect the 2 stroke oil pipe from the carb, but should be able to leave the throttle and choke cables in place).
If that doesn't work then you might have to unbolt the subframe. Think just 4 bolts hold it in place. However the wiring / oil pipe / few other odds and sods will also hold it in place. Should be possible to have someone else hold the subframe while you put the airbox roughly in place and then bolt the subframe back on (ie, saves you having to disconnect the wiring, etc).
All the best
