Speedy Po-Ped

Hi Y'All,

Quick history, then the question.

Got the boy a Rieju RS2 50 Matrix, and after a few false starts (literally), sorted with help th ekind posters here, he is up and running and enjoying the freedom it has given him.

Minor issue the other day with quite a bit of noise from the chain and not being a biker myself, took it into the local bike dealer/mechanic (Lamo's) and turned out to just need a good lube and nothing more.

Took the bike down there in the back of the van as I did not know if there was anything serious with the noise, but as all was OK, the boy rode it back with me following not too close behind.

I know that 'Peds are limited from the factory to about 30mph and that most of them get de-restricted by the first owner, which is what I assume has happened on this one, but he was reporting that the speedo was reading off the scale and I confirmed that on the flat, without a following wind, he was bombing along at close to 60mph.

Is this normal kind of speed for a de-restricted 'Ped? or is this particularly quick or even slow for one?

it may have a kit fitted e.g big bore, bigger piston to take it to a 70cc and if de restricted with the 70cc kit and some other things then it is possible yes

You'd be surprised with these little 50cc liquid cooled engines, they are very impressive. I've had two that could do near 60mph from my parents following behind. I learned the hard way how fast I should ride the first one though, so tell him to be careful.

Chers for the answers,

Don't think it has anything done to it apart from the standard de-restrict and re-jet, nothing fancy.

I personally doubted his estimates of speed previously, but like i said, following in the van, I can confirm that he was at the thick end of the 50s with no wind or downhill assistance.

Also, cheers for the words of warning and concern, he has already had the lecture on speed and safety from me and like I said in my original post, I'm not a biker, but have lost too many friends due to bike accidents (1 would be too many, but you know what I mean).
