Yesterday I went and looked at a 2005 hornet, everything looked good so handed over the money. The bike is white and in very good condition, apart from a bit of rust on the pillion pegs. Only got 11,800 miles on it. It is completely standard except for a top box and a little screen

So far I have found out that a 600 pulls a hell of a lot more than a 400! and that a I prefer a more sit up riding position, its so much more comfy.

Mod's planned are new levers as the clutch isn't adjustable and it is a bit of a stretch. Also going to get a radiator cover, but can't find any normal ones I hate the nasty chrome ones. May look into an exhaust but the standard one doesnt sound too bad, so that will wait until funds permit it.

Overall I am very happy. Looks like I have got a real bargain! Will upload some pictures soon when I find the cable for my phone.

That looks like a very tidy machine dude. Treat her well Smile

Also, IMO it'd look better without that screen bit. Doesn't look bad, but if it were my bike, i'd take it off.. But i guess it benefits you in a way. Smile

Well the amount of wind blast you get with the screen is bad enough, so without will be horrible. Doesnt look too bad in real life either.

And there so popular because theyre so good Wink Seriously after riding it I couldn't think of a better bike for me (well thats a lie I could, the street triple but I can't afford one)

You might find the wind blast is actually worse with the screen. Without it you will get general wind pressure over over your whole torso. With it you have a clam area then buffeting from anywhere from your shoulders upwards.

I found this on a naked bandit I rode, definatly better without the little screen.

Why the buggery didn't anyone tell me this 6 weeks ago when I bought the Hornet? I took my flyscreen off this afternoon to try out the theory and bugger me sideways if it ain't right! I've not got that ridiculous jet engine noise round my head and the blast's not trying to rip my lid off at any speed above 45mph. Yet another revelation. Cheers Polarbear!!!

Will try without it then, it does push my head all over the place at the moment. Also wind noise is unbelievably bad, but think thats down to my scruffy helmet, next thing on the to buy list.

What model is your Hornet Carlos? has it got all the '05 upgrades or is it just before?

That's a steal for those miles and age. Great find.

Decent pads and braided lines next would be a recommendation from me. The riding position and handling are also improved with Renthal Ultra Lows.

It's the one with the digital dash etc, but with the normal forks. Can't believe the difference...

And the screen used to vibrate really badly at about 3k revs, very loud and buzzy. Another noise gone!

Think I am keeping it as standard as possible right now. Mainly as insurance is up in a month and I am skint Laughing Although braided hoses will be going on when I can afford it.

Oh and it could do with a new set of tyres come the MOT (3 months time) Any recommendations? think the current ones are michelin sport pilots or something like that, think I will go for a set of road pilots to get some more miles out of it as well as it won't square off so easy.

My screens on fairly well, no noise from the front. The only noise thats playing with me now is theres a bit of a rattle with the clutch out in neutral.

Thank you! I am having amazing paranoia still. Just came back from the shops and every single little noise is really scaring me. I think it was because of the cheap price, I am still awaiting it to blow up on me!

Took the screen off my hornet and your completely right, clutch rumble is annoying but a feature of every Honda I've owned. Mine has a orrible tap on start up which is not valve clearence or CCT but I've stopped worrying about it.
