Hey guys,

As a lot of guys on here have their fair share of hobbies, I was wondering if anyone had given Quad skating or inline a go?

I went to the local roller rink by us with a girl I'm currently seeing and found it quite fun. It was very weird at first having wheels strapped to you're feet as you can imagine but soon got used to them after falling once and landing on my knee, the other people we were with said I did it very gracefully! Laughing

Just got to work on my cornering as that sensation is very alien indeed, it is actually easier to do the faster you go or it was with the hire boots I wore as the wheels would slide slightly.

Going again on Sunday and I'm after my own boots. Definatly worth a laugh if you get the chance but I suspect a few on here are too manly to try anything that adventurous? Laughing

What's the worst thing about owning a pair of rollerblades?

Telling your Dad you're gay.

Old joke, sorry.

Years ago I used to go to a place called roller city, I had quads, blades were for queers back then. I had a set of Bauer turbo's, they cost about 100 quid at the time, I got a set of "sims" (bout 60 quid) wheels and some decent trucks, some cheese blocks for style and I was good to go.

At risk of blowing my own trumpet I was pretty good, used to skate along the seafront, over a mile skating backwards, used to use thee ramps and do jumps etc, roller hockey was cool, I was average at it though.

Contemplating getting another pair to recapture the youth.

Yea seen a lot of Bauer turbo's on ebay but they tend to hit £70-120 depending on what they have on them and what condition.

Really want my own skates as the hire ones are shit, I wish I could skate backwards, teh gurlz can do it at speed and it looks cool as fuck tbh. I was worried I was going to hate it due to my leg being pretty weak and such but like I said, it was a top laugh, can even get a pint to cool off with. Laughing

It's a good way to stay in shape anyway, jesus after a few laps I was fucked and my leg took to it quite well could feel muscles getting used that don't see much action on the pushbike. Thumbs Up

Last time I skated was when I was about 26. But that was Ice skating.

Up until I was about 21 though Ice Skating, Roller skating, roller blading, Ice hockey, street hockey.

I would think nothing of skating 5 miles to and from work each day and would regularly skate up this hill so I could skate down it.

Fruitbooter here Very Happy

I was always more into the aggressive side of skating when I was younger. Managed to get fairly decent at grinding, but then gave up for about 10 years. Got my skates out of the attic a couple of months ago though, and have been going to a local skating rink. Apparently my technique has gotten quite sloppy. Plus, I'm a fat bastard now.

Looking at these at the moment, possible next skates:

Laughing It took me about 30mins to get balance and that was quite funny, looked like something out of a cartoon.

yeah when I was 8. I broke my arm. I denied my arm was broken when I got in, cos I honestly didn't realise, and was still protesting in the hospital when they took x-rays.

But I got into skateboarding and stuck with that till I was about 23 before giving up.

when i was a kid i played junior ice hockey and did agressive roller blading (stunts & grinds and stuff) so i was pretty handy on mine Smile

couldnt go to those roller disco things, went once and we promptly got chucked out after i did a powerslide and my grinding plate bolts scored a nice groove the floor whoops Embarassed

before that we kept getting told off for going too fast and/or going backwards.

stuck to the pavements after that Smile

still got my old roses romes and bluebolt skating jeans in the cupboard Very Happy

Epic bumpage,

Been the roller rink a few times and really enjoying it, my hip gets a killer work out and i'm really getting the hang of it. Got my own skates set up which make everything 100% easier and converting some ice skates into quad skates for the lady as she wanted them haha.

Seen someone with converted bike boots at the rink the other day too which was quite cool, said they were ace and gave him excellent support for his dodgy ankle.

Years ago was well into aggressive blading too, had some K2 Fattys which were the bollocks back then.

https://www.jtote.com/images/3/1/f/31fe4ef0964e8421b6dc6294663226af.jpg

I still had them up until a few years ago and upon a clean out of the garage, they got thrown in the skip Sad

We used to build ramps and do 360's and shit off them, go the ramp works in Aintree and used to play hockey on the street and in tournaments.

One of my favourite things we used to do was get my mate on his KX125 to pull us down the road holding onto the back of it. Fucking funny letting go at 60mph and flying down the road.

I did quad skating yeeeaars ago at a skating rink while on holiday in Minehead as I remember.... bearing in mind that I'm old enough to have been using quad skates years before inline skates were even available Embarassed
I used the ones with leather straps and metal buckles that were belted up to the bottom of your shoes... OMG am I really THAT old??
https://sportbrooklyn.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/roller_skate.png

Having said that, my personal preference was for skateboarding... if only because in the event of a loss of balance, or an inevitable crash, you can still jump off and land on your feet

I used to do Aggressive Inline, Few years back mind....
Was alot of fun, pulling tricks (I started as a basic skater untill a good friend got me into aggressive) Wish I could find the pics I had to show.
Acid drop
Air
Alley-oop
Many more
They were the days
Its really good fun, And an enjoyable hobbie.
I gave up, as the friend that introduced me was in the '50/50' Vert, with me.... He caught the grind bar and came crashing down - Wreaked his neck Thumbs Down Wasnt nice, but - it was something I enjoyed and your post has reminded me of the good days of skates.
I might just go back Thumbs Up
I hope you carry on enjoying just like I did Thumbs Up

Given how ghey rollerblading is, isn't 'Aggressive Blading' the biggest oxymoron of ever?

Laughing

Skateboards FTW.

I still have my Bauer in-lines in the attic, from back in my teens when I used to skate round the car parks in Flint. Only bone I've ever broken was a fractured wrist fron a badly exectuted jump over a piece of pavement.

Still have my skateboard too. Well, one of them. I had skateboards all through my Bart Simpson years.

My age was still single-digits back in the days of the roller-disco. Used to go every now and again. Tidy.

Maybe give it another go Louise? Not got a rink by you? Family night out with your kid would be pretty cool no?

Angryjonny, ah yea broken wrists is something i see at the rink an cringe, my gf broke her wrist on her first visit haha.

She loves her Bauers i converted for her, they were a right cunt with the dull drill bits we had, i eventually said fuck it and went and bought some. Soon got the ice skate blades off and sized up her quad base plates and set about getting the correct length bolts and then making some plates for said bolts. Turned out pretty well, was a hell of a job with no bench grinder or pillar drill, got my eye on some on ebay.

It took me a good week to get them converted again would of taken less time if i knew what i was doing and had the right tools. Laughing

Just need to save up for some nice paint colours then spray paint my boots winter camo. Thumbs Up Laughing

I was very good at roller blading years a go but always found ice skating hard, but tbh not doing well at it does get you sympathy! :p
I hated getting blisters from ice skating and also it wasn't as free as blading if you know what I mean.

Inline skates have been around a while, used to have a pair of Skeelers in the early 70s :-
