2 Stroke Tidy Up!

Well this is my recently purchased RS125. Engine wise it is sound (after a few little running in issues). It was bought having a full nut and bolt rebuild from a chap locally who buys run down abused bikes and gets them back running for people like me!

Cosmetically there are a few things I want to do so hopefully in a year or I can sell on without loosing too much (having past my test) and move on to bigger things.

My List

It has been dropped at some point and the front fairing has quite deep scratches down one side.

Option 1) purchase second hand fairing and a re-spray
Option 2) attemp to remove scratches and re-spray

Rear cowl, again scratched at the rear. I've just purchase a 2nd hand one which I'm going to have a go at cleaning up / spraying. If all goes well with the re-spray I'll have a go at the front fairing and maybe the bike.

Rev counter, jumps about a bit and internal clock is a bit loose. Along with a hole someone has punched in the sponge.

Sort the bits of rust around the foot pegs / brakes.

Bar ends - well damaged

Fairing bolts to be replaced

Seats getting re-covered.

Speedo Drive needs replacing

Polish up the frame.

All in all not a great deal to do but I'm a newbie on bikes so don't want to take on too much just yet.

Look's like a tidy little bike i would attempt the faring's myself if i was you as it's good to learn and saves ALOT of money.

The most important thing is prep work, people think the spraying is the hard part but paint finish will only be as good as it's prep work.

Take the panels off start with a rougher grade of sandpaper and start working down to smoother stuff use some Filler for the deep scratches sand the filler down and then go over the panels with wet and dry sand paper until they're really smooth.

Normally anything thing you can feel with your hand on the panels will show up in the paint regardless of how little it is.

The rest of the work seem's pretty simple
could make a really tidy RS

Update:

Well the rear cowl won't be hear until Monday so going to have to wait for the prep practice and painting, if all goes Lipsmoker I've decided on doing all fairings, a paint job was offered when i bought the bike but I thought I'd get more enjoyment (and experience) doing it my self - thats once decided on a colour and I find some decent decals.

Took the clocks off last night and added sanding and repainting the clock subframe to my list as well as tidying up the wires. The rev counter itself I think is faulty, the inner rattles about a bit which i'm guessing is making the needle jump about. Will have a better look this weekend and if salvagable will purchase the clock surround to HD

Seats are getting re-covered next week by a chap who fixes leather sofa's and car seats in exchange for me doing him some business cards - a fair trade I thought. Going for both seats in black.
