To cut a long story short, it was running fine during the day, stopped riding for a bit and when kicking it back up, gave it some revs and it spluttered, and died never to return again.
IT has both kick-start n electric, neither of which will kick it up, although the engine will turn over from the kick (and electric sounds healthy, so shouldnt be battery?) - So i take it that it hasnt seized? (had worries about the low oil level causing problems, its since been filled right up).
Spark has been checked and it wasnt working properly - however a bit of sanding and fiddling and it now produces a strong spark.. Tried again and still no joy
The bike is a Piaggio NRG Liquid Cooled 50cc, which has honestly never caused me any problems before this. My assumptions would be to suspect the auto choke/carb?
Very little mechanical knowledge, and all suggestions would be appreciated, thanks. ____________________ 33bhp Yamaha Fazer FZS - Thats how full on. |

Theres 5 main things that a 2 stroke needs to run:
Petrol
Oil
Air
Spark
Compression
So, considering you have a spark, you now need to check that fuel is getting through. Whip the carb off and clean out the Main Jet, this is the cause of 90% of the scooter problems we see on here. You'll need some carb cleaner to do it.
If that doesn't fix your problem then take you air filter out and clean it. See if that makes a difference.
If that doesn't work then charge the battery up, it could just be that its to low to produce a spark.
If that doesn't work then get a compression tester on the cylinder and see if its actually got compression. If not then thats your problem. If you have and its getting fuel, air, oil and a spark then im stumped. ____________________ Former: Derbi GP1 50, Sachs XTC 125, Suzuki GSXR 400 GK73A, Kawasaki ZX7R, Suzuki DR250, Yamaha RD350

Thanks for the replies so far, can not believe it has ran fine for about 10 months then suddenly dies on me at last minute! Bloody thing
How difficult is it to clean the carb on a bike of this size, im guessing relatively simple? May take a very quick tip to halfords now and try n get it done tonight.. If thats possible with no real mechanical knowledge?
EDIT - Ahh crap, I aint got no bike to get to halfords on!
Still, be good to know. ____________________ 33bhp Yamaha Fazer FZS - Thats how full on. |
