Since Sunday I think I have had a twitchy eye the upper lid of my left eye flutters/spasms fairly offen, Any body had this? I have been ill since Monday night although this did start before.

I do feel tired/run down so assume this is the cause although I had roughly 14 hours sleep last night.

Stress, tiredness and/or depression are the usual suspects. I'd say you're a little run down, especially if you've been ill.

It started before the illness, if it is stress related I know what it is now.

There are old wives' tales of sticking a bit of elastoplast on the ticking muscle to stop it.

I've no idea if it works though.

Two questions:-

Do you need/wear glasses?
Have you been for an eye test recently?

I need reading glasses, and have had the twitchy eye thing on occasions. When I asked my optician about it, he said that is sometimes caused by eye strain. If your vision is faltering slightly your eye, or eyes, are constantly trying to focus but never quite manage to. Consequently the muscles around your eye are in overdrive, the twitching is just a reaction to this, similar to getting the shakes after an adrenalin surge!

This is why I never Google anything health-related, the attitude is always "Oh my God, how are you still alive?" Laughing

I get it every now and again when I'm overtired or stressed. Had it for three weeks' solid a year or so ago, it did my head in.

It will go away though.

My eye used to do this before I was put on my antidepressants but I would factor stress, anxiety and fatigue into it also.

Another vote for stressy/tired. I get it fairly regularly and my eye hasn't fallen out yet.
