There won't be a specific wire on a bike for auxiliary stuff, you'll just have to tap into a wire somewhere to do it - just find somewhere convenient. The feed to the brake light switch is a good place (front or back). On a kawasaki of that age my guess (i.e. you might want to check) is you'd be looking for any brown wire which will be live with the ignition switched on.

The problem with the alternators on those if I remember is that the magnets detach from the flywheel and then create havoc. I'm not sure if there's anything you can do other than wait for one to fall off.

Hi

As above. I would use the rear brake light switch as a trigger wire for a relay powered directly from the battery (via a fuse).

The early shape GPZ500s have flywheels on which the magnets tend to crack and come off. They seem to manage about 20k~25k before this happens. If you are unlucky then it will take out the alternator windings as well. New flywheel isn't cheap (although new ones are redesigned to avoid the problem), while 2nd hand ones are difficult to find.

If you need to remove the flywheel then remember the bolt holding it on has a reverse thread Embarassed .

All the best

Keith
