Zx9 OK to commute on ?

ZX9's seen quite cheap at moment, and wondered if it was an OK bike to commute 70 miles a day on ?!

whats the servicing like on these, or should I look at GSXR750 (as recommended by Paddy) else a ZX6R

Cant comment on doing those miles tho, and I havent ridden a 9 yet!

how does a zx9r compare in terms of fuel to a ZZR600E?

40k is nothing for a zx9 assuming it's looked after.

They commute just fine, are absolutely reliable and very well behaved at low speeds. I vaguely remember getting an average of 30 to 40mpg around town on mine with it getting quite a bit better when cruising at 70mph.

I never really got on with mine which was a huge shame as it was a magnificent bike.

I have had 2 and commuted on them both. Brilliant bikes! The E1 i just sold would get 40mpg all day long if caning it.

Cruising along at sensible speeds reckon it would do 50mpg easy , only tried that once though! Mr. Green

well I thinks it definately between GSXr750, ZX6r or ZX9r depending on whats on offer come september when I have the dosh.

I simply loved commuting daily into London on the ZX9R and doing 80 miles a day, plus weekend rideouts, and trackdays cost me a huge fortune in servicing, tyres and fuel etc.

But I'm glad I had the pleasure of doing so!

ZX 9... An all time great in my book, I had 3 of them a 1998, 2001, and a 2002 models.

As an all rounder, it will do everthing from town riding to long distance.
I did a 1030 miles in a day two up with luggage.. even used one for dispatching..

Wasnt so much on a whim but my wife just got a new job which involves her needing the car so i had to get a bike again (gutted Laughing

)

Had a set budget and was looking at sensible cheap to run commuters but also wanted something that i could still get some enjoyment from or take a bit of pride in - spent the whole of Friday looking all over the internet with very little catching my eye. Had given up but went onto zx-9r.net to see what was going on and found that ^^^^ Shocked

Its funny this popped up, ive been wanting to swap mine in for one of these lately.

Are there many differences between the single and twin headlight models?

Other than ones carbed and ones FI? sorry I dont know the model names, which is the better of the two?
