I want:

- retro style naked (says man and hairy chest Wink )
- cheap and robust for all-year commuting
- fairly economical
- Don't care if it's bland, it's how you ride it that matters
- fairly large-ish bike
- cheap to insure
- Large -ish tank range

Is a CBF600n a damn good underrated bike?! Shocked

Bandit, SV650, Gladius - in the winter? No no no?
Er6 - too small and not retro
Hornet - 100 mile tank range? No no no!
XJ6 etc - not convinced by Yamaha.

Thanks.

PS - naturally I will test ride but am at research stage for now.

They're not fantastic, but they seem to be the courier weapon of choice in London. I've had a go on one, and I can't say I was overwhelmed - but I can see why they count as workhorses.

SV650 is budget, but good value - I liked the one I took out, but found it cramped. Bandit 650 is proper pony though, buzzy and uncomfortable. Can't see how winter'd be an issue, although they do have a reputation for going a bit furry - don't know how valid that is these days.

Try a Fazer 600?

silky666: He rode amazingly well considering his bike is the weight of a small van and had slicks on.

The lack of responses tells me what a bore this bike must be... Embarassed

Well, it would primarily be for commuting after all Razz

Did my DAS on one, very easy to ride and good as a Commuter I would say - but you might get bored of it after a while. But for town stuff its pretty ideal. Probably the reason I unded up getting the CB750 as my 1st bike (which is also big), as it was cheaper and pretty similar.

I had one for over 3 years but to be honest I never liked riding it (couldn't decide what else to get). They are big and roomy, I had plenty of space for my legs (i'm 6"2) and the seat has height adjustment. ABS models have a centre stand as well. I never got under 180 miles on a tank. The problem I had with it is that it was difficult to manoeuvre in town, it felt very heavy at the front. It didn't have a very good turning circle either and the handle bars always got in the way of a tank bag. But it had a cracking engine. You can ride all day at 30/40 but, if you want, it will bring on a smile if you rev it a bit (7000+). Wasn't very confidence inspiring on the twisties though.
