Evening all, new here.

I have a bike I need collected from the dealer and delivered to me. I've been looking into a few companies do this and have got a few quotes but I don't know who to trust as I'm just going off a website.

I'm thinking of using movingmotorcycles.co.uk and just wanted to find out if anyone had any experience with these guys or if you could recommend any other companies.

Cheers folks

The majority of dealers will deliver motorcycles for you either included in the price of the bike or for a fee.

Of course, this is all assuming that you're not just a dummy account registered on behalf of www.movingmotorcycles.co.uk to advertise their services.

If not, if a motorcycle courier service is #1 on Google chances are it's legit and personally I'd suggest hiring a van instead if you have a licence.

Good luck!

Cheers guys, not a dummy account for the company, just wanted to see if anyone had used them before.

The dealer does offer delivery but when I asked for a quote they said I'd be better offer arranging my own as the company they use isn't the cheapest. Cost doesn't bother me and if I can't find a recommended company then I'll just use the dealers' guys.

I could hire a van and do it myself but I'm not aware of any van hire places that would be equipped to carry a bike safely. All the companies local to me are just shagged old transits.

Bike is in Essex, I'm in Newcastle

Ratchet straps.

Providing the van has internal rails or tie down points and you get some advice on how to tie it down properly, you'll be fine Thumbs Up

As other posters have said .. get van and do it yourself, it will save you a few bob as well perhaps.

Good luck with it.

Yep a van is the way to go. My last two moves:

https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/photovan.jpg

https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/photo__1_.jpg

The Gixxer (first photo) was the easiest as we had a luton box with a tail lift. If the bike had been any longer we wouldn't have gotten it on the tail lift so be careful with that. There are a LOT more tie points in a luton then in a transit like my last move with the Sachs (second picture). That took us nigh on 3 hours to tie up securely because it kept moving. Later on we pulled over and lashed the bars up to the roof which isnt shown in the photo. We used a ramp to get the bike into the transit.

No matter which size of van you go with, take a mate with you to help you. You'll need them.

Clapped out transits are fine for moving bikes around with.

If you care about the bike a LOT though and money isnt a problem just get the dealers company to move it. They if they drop it or fuck it up its their problem.

See my original thread here

EDIT: We drove the vans about 120 miles each time and neither bike moved an inch. Just to show you that it works.

I have just used Shiply to arrange collection of my new bike from Wiltshire to Aberdeen. Paying £185 including the Shiply fee.

Couldnt have done it cheaper by hiring a van myself or even getting a bus/train down and riding it back up.

I moved a bike from york to colchester. Cost me £55 for the van hire (enterprise) and £50 in fuel (york to colchester, back to york) plus a day of my time.

I used two ratchet straps (which I already owned, 18quid from wickes if I remember rightly, rated to 3000kgs of strain) to secure the bike and used a scaff board as a ramp (I scrounged one for free from the local scaffolding company).

If you do use a van and do it yourself , make sure its tied down securly as when i last did it the bike started moving towards the back of the van.
heavily presses the brakes and the bike came flying towards us lol.

Anyway ended up having my mate sat on the bike on the stand for the 50mile trip on the motorway, And basically he couldnt walk straight for a good hour or so when we finally arrived home.

If you need to be told this, you're probably better off paying a few more quid and getting a pro to fetch the bike for you!

Recently used leetransport on Shiply to move a V Strom from Chester to Glasgow (about £110). The guy was superb - handles bikes well and good comms.

Is it common then for shops to not deliver a bike?

I would have thought that every bike shop has a van and that they would deliver at least within there county for free, good customer service like that would make you shop there again.
If this is the case i will have to shop around near future and only buy from a shop that does do delivery.
