Righto, I spotted this guy on his bike up at Box hill a while back, it was a boiling hot day and he had on a t - shirt with some sort of 'skeleton' type body armour over the top, basically it would have protected his skin, elbows etc in the event of an accident, it wasnt a jacket as far as I could tell. Does anyone know what this type of thing is called?

I had a look on ebay and all I could find was this:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180678771511&ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT

But im not convinced that this is what the guy was wearing. If there is no other type of armour and it was what he was wearing, then is the above item any good?

I hope this all makes sense!! Laughing

All well and good if you're good enough to just slide along on your knees when you come off, but bye bye skin for the rest of you!

I fail to see the point. If its to keep cool then just get an armoured summer jacket?

I'm pretty sure if you stacked it wearing that it would just get torn apart. Would probably be a good thing to wear under a motocross jersey...

I think I know what you mean, a sort of mesh with armour on the elbows/shoulders etc. Probably double as a nice outfit in a Gay Nightclub Wink

You don't say whether you want to stay cool or look cool!
Assuming you want to keep cool, I can give you a direct comparison.

I have one of those body armour vest things and I recently bought this:-

https://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/Troodos-Pool-Guy/RZR%20250/P1010004.jpg

https://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu172/Troodos-Pool-Guy/RZR%20250/P1010005.jpg

You'll have to bear in mind that temperatures here are between 15 and 20 degrees C hotter than the UK, (it's been in 42 over the weekend), so obviously keeping cool is a big deal here.

The body armor vest does keep me cooler, however the issue I have with it is despite having an 8 inch wide wraparound, velcro, kidney, back protector belt, because of the way it's made it tends to move around a bit on your body and doesn't hold the armor, particularly on your arms, in the correct place.

The jacket, in the photos, has a mesh torso and textile arms, and I feel there isn't much in it, temperature wise. The armor in the shoulders is velcroed in place, the elbow pads are in zipped pockets. There is a pocket for a back protector as well. The mesh is double layered and looks quite sturdy, more so than on my armor vest. Oh and it's got pockets. Thumbs Up

Of the two I prefer the jacket, its a lot easier to get on and off and does keep you cool, it also feels less cumbersome.

To be honest neither of these actually keep you cool enough, over here, when it's hot it's hot, even higher speeds don't cool you down! I'm sure they'd keep you cool in he UK though!
