Hi,
I'm a newbie here... looking at doing my DAS as an early 40-something new rider. Completed my CBT a couple of weeks back and now just successfully done my theory today.

Highly recommend LDC's Theory Test Complete which I used to train for the multi-choice and hazard perception - very useful for the latter.

I now have a copy of it surplus to requirement - PM me if you'd like to buy it off me Smile

Laughing I wish I still had mine!

Sorry but I cant recommend a bike as I've still not decided on what I'm gonna upgrade to yet however there's plenty of posts on what types of bike everyone around here recommends but at the end of the day it's down to how YOU feel on the bike.

I would suggest that you go to a few showrooms and sit on all the bikes there to see which one feels right as you may prefer the super sports type but be more suited to a tourer type or you could be too tall/short for the type of bike you lust after. You may find that you prefer the bikes that your instructors use or absolutely hate them. Most experienced riders on here may tell you to look at the 600cc range of bikes as a first bike because the DAS doesn't fully prepare you unless you've had previous riding experience as it is in effect a 'crash' course (queue Teflon-Mike Laughing) but as I said before you'll have to find a bike that feels right for you and that's not gonna cost you shed loads in insurance.

Have fun choosing!

Hi Wibbler, welcome and best of look with the Mods.

As for bike choice? Well that will depend on what your going to be using it for? If you add some background as to the bikes use, you will get the elders of BCF given you untold amount of knowledge. Also what will be your budget?

Most suggestions tend to be:

Divvy (Yamaha XJ600/900)

Teapot (Suzuki GSX 600F/750F) (I saw a GSX-600F yesterday on a 91 plate 30k miles was a project, brand new paint in stunning condition for age for only £750 !!! had been sold 2 hours earlier Crying or Very sad )

Bandit (Suzuki GSF 600/650)

Hornet (Honda 600F/900F)

Suzuki SV650 is a very popular recommendation from what I have seen too.

I asked the very same question just a few days ago, and Teflon-Mike made a very good case for 750's. The thread is below:

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=226835

Once you have a budget and usage in mind, scour the likes of Biketrader, E-bay and Gumtree to see what types of bikes are being sold around your budget.
I have been using MCN's bike review to learn a bit more about the differing choices:

https://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikereviews/

It will give you a quick overview. It won't take you long to start seeing which bikes appeal to you. Then once you have more of an idea, start a new thread asking about specific bikes. There will be members who have one or have previously owned one and will give loads of feedback.

anyway, hope that helps.
